  2. MEET YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER! Miss Tybinka • Originally from South Lyon, Michigan • Moved to Georgia after graduating from CMU • Taught 2nd grade for 3years at SBE • Have taught 3rd and 4th grade at HCE • 2009 received a Master’s Degree in Technology in Education from Lesley University. • Graduated in May 2011from UGA with a Specialist Degree in Instructional Tech. • Currently working • on Gifted Endorsement

Math w/ Miss Tybinka Warm-Ups (5-10 Minutes) • Monday s – Math Journal • Tuesday s & Thursdays – Review Warm-up & Timed Test • Wednesday s – Quick Review (formative assessment) • Fridays – Brain Teaser Whole Group Lesson (30-40 Minutes) • Students will work to build math fluency, think critically, and problem solve • Note Taking - Interactive Notebook Centers (20-25 minutes) • May include: Mountain Math, Computers, Georgia Frameworks, Games, Teacher Small Group, etc. Extensions: Math in History, Math Mysteries, Logic Puzzles, “10 Things all Future Mathematicians and Scientists Must Know”, Mathletes, and more! **Students will have Math homework nightly.

  4. Math Grading Policy • Fifth Grade grading scale – “Grade Plus” • Summative Assessments – Tests and Projects • 90%-100% ~ A • 80%-89% ~ B • 70%-79% ~ C • Below 70% ~ F • Formative Assessments – Quizzes and Daily Assignments • If you’re concerned, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

Science w/ Miss Tybinka • The 5th grade Science Standards include: • Life Science – Cells, Microorganisms, Animal and Plant Classification, Inherited Traits & Learned Behaviors • Physical Science – Properties of Matter, Chemical & Physical Changes, Electricity & Magnetism • Earth Science – Constructive/Destructive Forces, Human Intervention on the Environment • Health will be taught during the 4th quarter Daily science work may include: • Warm-Up • Whole Group Activity • Science Lab • Small Group Centers • Note Taking Lesson
