The Senate Dawdles • EPW – Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) • Commerce – Federal Surface Transportation and Policy Act of 2009 • General objectives and performance guidelines • Goals include reducing motor vehicle travel and delay; improving asset condition and intermodal efficiency

  4. The House Plunges In • T&I – The Surface Transportation Authorization Act of 2009 • Funding level - $500 billion ($286.5B) • Highways $337.4B ($227.4B) • Transit $99.8B ($52.6B) • Hwy/Motor Carrier Safety $12.6B ($6.5B) • High Speed Rail $50B (11 corridors)

  9. The Administration Hesitates • Proposes to extend SAFETEA-LU for 18 months • $20 billion in general revenue to fund HTF shortfall • Senate considers a $27 billion extension • House T&I opposes extension, but will likely pass a temporary fix • Chances dim for new authorization this year
