  2. Live or Let Die… Should doctor assisted suicide be legalized for the terminally ill?

  3. Doctor Assisted Suicide Should be Legalized… Should those who suffer have to wither away in a hospital bed?Should we have not have a choice regarding our own existence? Is dying really a crime?

  4. Dr. Death… Jack Kevorkian is an American Pathologist, right-to-die activist. He is best known for advocating a terminally ill patient’s right to die, via physician-assisted suicide. He claims to have assisted more than 130 patients, and famously said that “dying is not a crime”. Kevorkian’s Explanation of his assisted suicide method

  5. As written in a legal webpage it is stated: In the United States and many other countries, suicide is legal in Canada if a person can carry out the act by themselves. However, obtaining assistance to commit suicide is not legal. Thus, Physician Assisted Suicide (PAS) is a criminal act. How can death be a crime if it is the solution to suffering? In all cases it is the patients will to die, and it should not be looked upon as a criminal act. Where life is no longer worth while for the patient, this painless process for the terminally ill proves to be harmless.   Each individual has exclusive ownership of his or her own life. Ownership of something includes the right to destroy or eliminate it.Thus, everyone has the right to choose to end his or her life.

  6. Doctor Assisted Suicide Should be Illegal… Committing the horrendous act of euthanasia is considered murder – the taking of another human beings life, unlawfully. God gave humans the beautiful gift of life, and assisted suicide dismisses that. Believing that one holds the power to end ones’ life due to extreme suffering remains sinful, despite a person’s request. Nobody gave human’s the power to play God’s role, He will call them home when it is their time. The ending of a life, in any manor, or wrong because of the intentional act of taking a human life. Part 1, number 7 of the Canadian Constitution states that, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principals of fundamental justice.” As Catholics we believe that all life is sacred and should not be taken for granted. Life is such a magical and wonderful gift and should not be taken with a grain of salt. God has blessed each an every one of us with the opportunity to live life and create life; we should all be grateful for all the wonders He affords us.

  7. Discussion Questions: • Should (or does) a person have a right to suicide? If so, does a person have a right to assistance in suicide?  By doctors only, or by anyone?Should the right to assisted suicide be restricted on the basis of medical condition?Should it be restricted so as to guarantee the patient is rational?Should it be restricted (or prohibited) so as to protect against abuse?
