  9. Cynthia Rylant Cynthia Rylant is the author of beginning-reader series: Henry and Mudge, Annie and Snowball, Poppleton, and Mr. Putter and Tabby. Early-chapter book series include ‘Cobble Street Cousins’ and ‘High-Rise Private Eyes’. She has also written many other novels and picture books.

  12. When I Was Young in the Mountains This is a true story about Cynthia Rylant when she was six years old and living with her grandparents in Cool Ridge, West Virginia in 1960! The illustrator, Diane Goode, set the story further back in time.

  13. Henry and Mudge These stories are about the adventures of a young boy Henry and his large dog Mudge. Cythina Rylant based the character Henry on her son Nate and Mudge on her own dogs.

  14. The Relatives Came This is the story about relatives who came to visit Cynthia Rylant’s family each summer. They would come up to visit from Virginia and stay for a long time.

  15. Honors Cynthia Rylant won the Newbery Medal for her book ‘Missing May’ in 1993. Then her book ‘A Fine White Dust’, was a Newbery Honor Book. Other honors include two Caldecott Honor-winning picture books in 1985 and 1986.
