  3. Diploma Types 1. Academic Diploma: take those classes which meet the minimum graduation requirements. 2. Honors Diploma: take more rigorous courses, including a foreign language, considered a college preparatory diploma. a. Honors: must take at least 3 AP or dual credit courses and two courses in the same foreign language. Cannot make a D in any class taken. b. Top Honors: must take at least 5 AP or dual credit courses and two courses in the same foreign language. Cannot make a D in any class taken. These students will be considered for valedictorian and salutatorian.

Registration Sheet • Please write your name at the top on the right. • Circle Diploma Type—Honors or Academic • Write your Career Pathway • Choose Required Courses • Choose Pathway Course • Choose Elective • 7 Credits Total—you should circle 7 credits/courses. • List alternates on the registration sheet—please choose carefully. It could be that two of your classes are taught at the same time and you may have to be placed in one of your alternates.

  8. Double Up on Math? Gatton Academy? Must have 3 math courses at the end of 10th Engineering pathway? Should have AP Calculus on HS transcript GSP? Number of math courses will not affect your GSP application If math is your thing and you want to take as many as possible in high school, then you should double up! Required math courses: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry Every student must take a math course each year. Additional courses: Trigonometry Pre-Calculus AP Calculus College Algebra

AP or Regular Classes? • Students wishing to be valedictorian should consider taking all of the AP classes. • AP classes are more rigorous and help prepare you for the ACT and for college. • You can earn college credit if you pass the AP exam. • However, for merit scholarship purposes it is better to get an A than it is to take an AP. (See the WKU merit chart.)

  11. 2018-2019 Schedule at MCHS • Students will have the opportunity to earn 7 credits each year. • Most classes will meet one period daily all year and be nearly one hour long. • We currently have a modified block schedule. • Be sure you have 7 courses/credits circled.

  12. Registration Timeline Turn in registration sheets to homeroom teacher at your middle school by March 16. Students will pick up their schedule at MCHS this summer. Make sure your home phone number is correct in IC so that you will get the One Call for schedule pick up. Check for any type of error. No schedule changes will be made once school begins.
