  2. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES Low level lighting • Typical conventions of a thriller... •  -low key lighting  •  - quick cuts  •  - shadows •  - tension music • - changes in angles and shots  •  - protagonist in mercy of antagonist Protagonist in danger/hiding Shadows

  3. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES • Have we used conventions of a thriller? •  - all throughout the scene there are constant camera angle changes and shot size changes. •  - we took time to establish low key lighting to create mood and atmosphere. •  - shadows were created by using UV strip lights from low angles to distort faces and unsettle audience.

  4. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES • Comparison of another opening sequence narrative • -  the shining, classic door scene...

  5. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES • Editing and sound • - the music playing is strings, like stabbing sounds, really unsettling and unerving creates a tense atmosphere. • - cuts between shots, the camera is always mooving has a frantic sense. • - the close up of the face resembles the close up of the eye in our sequence, a classic jump scare.

  6. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES • Mise En Scene  • - very similar surroundings • - old fashioned deteriorated bathroom  • - washed out lighting, old dated feel.

  7. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES • Our Opening Sequence Narrative... • - in the opening sequence we followed a typical convention of a thriller/mystery, we had the opening of the film as the ending of the movie, once we get to the climax of the ending and we are about to see the outcome we would have then cut to the beginning of the story. • The rest of the film would be a slow-burn crime/mystery/thriller about a young girl who gets stalked and catfished by a man with a growing obsession with her, along the way we get to know her and why she turned to a stranger online and look into the relationship between her and her dad.

  8. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES • Editing and Sound... • - in our opening sequence we made sure to include camera angles from all around our main character, creating this illusion that she is not safe and is vunerable. • We used hand-held I phones for certain scenes which captured a shaky kind of look very similar to the Blair witch project. (a similar media product) • We used a lot of close ups and extreme close up so when the camera pulls away there is an element of tensity for what may be infront of her r behind her.

  9. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES • Mise En Scene... • - one of the main things that we focused on, on the morning of the shoot was getting the lighting perfect to create an interesting and unsettling light. • - the surrounding were old fashioned and dated another typical convention of a thriller or even a horror film, old fashioned places are steriotypical places whereby people are afraid to go due to the media's representation of them. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES

  10. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES • How does it challenge social groups/issues  •  - what do we cover? •  - sexism  •  - catfishing/stalking  •  - socio ecenomic status

  11. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES • -Sexism and gender steryotype's...  • - women being more "vunerable" • - looking into the father being out doing all the work, steryotype around the man of the house. • - dangers of online friends and catfishing.

  12. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES

  13. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOW DOES IT CHALLENGE SOCIAL GROUPS/ISSUES • Socio ecenomic status • - out protagonist was a young girl round the age of 16 living alone with her father as her mother passed away, her father is barely around working multiple jobs to provide for her. • - we looked into the problems that this may cause for a child, being left alone most of the time to fend for yourself and bring yourself up can make problems arise. • - problems such as turning to strangers and trusting them because you are lonely. • - Even though her father is out trying to provide for her, his socio ecenomic status (being in the lower class) means that his daughter is neglected.
