  2. Q1. How will the traditional reference needs of student be met? • Build up a knowledge base system for FAQ. • Students are also encouraged to use the virtual reference, e.g. Ask a Librarian, email, online chat, etc.

  3. Q2. What New public services will be offered? • More proactive: Reference librarians meet students in hostels and meet faculty members in their office. • Mobile libraries.

  4. Q3. What kind of staff should be hired to Replace the early retired reference librarians? • No need to hire more staff. • Collaborate with other libraries to provide virtual reference.

  5. Q4. What skill sets and qualities will be required? • Reference Librarians are non-replaceable. • skill and qualities: • MLS libraries • Another Professional Master degree • Familiar with the resources and search skills • Reference Skills

  6. Q5. All technical services staff took early retirement , who could replace them? • No additional staff are required. • Cataloguing – Outsource • Acquisition – use Approval Plan

  7. Q6. Other departments for providing information service? • Other departments are too busy. • Other staff are more expensive than us.

  8. Q7. Could students and staff be charged for some service? • No. Library services are all free.

  9. Q 8&10. New learning support centre • No circulation desk – self-check system • New service points/areas: • Discussion rooms, practice/presentation rooms, Internet café, e-conference rooms, audio-visual rooms, relaxing area …. • Language centre, writing lab, … • A new desk for reference/research/IT enquiries.

  10. Q9. How will the 4 branch libraries related to the new Learning Support Centre? • Provide staff • Support the new Learning Support Centre

  11. Q11. What hours should it be open? • 24X7

  12. Q12. Will Food & drinkbe allowed? Mobile phones? • Food and drink allowed • Mobile phones in designated area with sound-proof.

  13. Q13. Employ empty classrooms to creat learning commons? • As a new learning centre will be set up, classrooms are not required.
