  1. HVACR214 – Electrical for Oil Hydronic Controls

  2. I. Terms • Hydronic A. Systems which use the circulation of hot water through pipes to provide heat • High limit A. Stops the burner if the temperature or pressure is to high • Circulator A. Pump used to move water through piping

  3. Circulator Relay A. Turns the pump off and on allows the low voltage thermostat to control the line voltage pump Low Limit A. Turns the burner on when the boiler temperature is below the set point (triple aqua stat) B. Turns boiler off when the temperature increases to set point C. In systems with hot water coil, it maintains boiler temp when thermostat is not calling for heat

  4. Circulator control A. Used in systems which have domestic coils B. Prevents the circulator from running if the burner is on or below the low limit i. Keeps the boiler from becoming to cold for domestic hot water

  5. II. Aquastat Controllers 1. High and Low Limit A. As a High Limit i. A safety device used to turn off the boiler heat source if the water temperature gets too high B. As a low limit i. Turns on the boiler heat source if water temperature gets too low 1. Maintains a minimum boiler operating temp

  6. C. Uses a temperature bulb with a capillary tube to sense temp changes D. Capillary tube connects to bellows that will expand or contract operating contacts E. Most Common are Honeywell L4006A and L6006A Circulator Control A. Prevents the circulator from operating when the water temp drops below set point B. When the boiler heats up the circulator comes back on

  7. Dual Aqua stat Controls A. Provides high limit , low limit and circulator control B. A SPDT switch is used as the low limit and circulator control i. When the boiler temp is below the set point 1. The R-B contacts are closed 2. The R-W contacts are open 3. When the temp is above the set point contacts are reversed 4. Model Number L6006

  8. Location and Installation 1. Installed below water line a. Boiler b. Steam 2. Goes into a well a. well is filled with conduction material for heat transfer 3. Should be level

  9. 4. Cover must be left on due to line voltage being exposed 5. Do not position where water may drip onto Aquastat

  10. Terminals for Triple Aquastat 1. terminal connects are a. L1 is line voltage b. L2 is neutral c. C1 is circulator line d. C2 Is circulator neutral e. B1 is Cadd Cell relay line (black wire) f. B2 is Cadd Cell relay neutral (white wire) g. Z1or R & Z2 or C for additional circulator relay controls h. Note: B2 & C2 could be same terminal
