  2. 1st Trimester Symptoms • Nausea & Vomiting • Morning Sickness • Pressure on Bladder

  3. 1st Trimester Symptoms • Begin taking prenatal vitamins • Skin may break out from hormone changes • Symptoms of EXTREME fatigue

  4. 1st Trimester Symptoms • Need to urinate more frequently due to increased hormone levels • MAD MOOD SWINGS • Angry, sad, happy, FOR NO REASON!

  5. 1st Trimester Symptoms • Can 1st Hear Baby’s Heartbeat using a Doppler

  6. 1st Trimester Symptoms • May feel forgetful, drop things, and even have trouble concentrating • Bleeding Gums • Tender Breasts

  7. 2nd Trimester Symptoms • Slightly Tender, Larger Breasts • Stronger Food Cravings, Less Nausea

  8. 2nd Trimester Symptoms • Don’t Feel As Tired • Feels the BEST during this Trimester

  9. 2nd Trimester Symptoms • Ultrasound can 1st Detect Gender now • Hemorrhoids • Constipated/Bloated

  10. 2nd Trimester Symptoms • Can feel baby’s first movements (quickening) • Dad can participate more / get more excited about pregnancy! • “Couvade Syndrome”

  11. 2nd Trimester Symptoms • Nipples & area around nipples (areola) get darker and broader • A small amount of thin fluid (colostrum) may leak out of nipples

  12. 2nd Trimester Symptoms • Dark line develops on skin between your navel & pubic area (“linea nigra”) • “mask of pregnancy” or darker area of pigmentation may develop on face

  13. 2nd Trimester Symptoms • Pink toothbrush from bleeding gums • Still forgetful, clumsy, & stupid  • BABY IS VERY ACTIVE—can feel him/her moving all over the place!

  14. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • Swelling in hands or feet (EXTREME swelling may be a symptom of hypertension/preeclampsia)

  15. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • Stretch Marks • Constipated/Bloated

  16. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • Hemorrhoids • Heart Burn & Indigestion

  17. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • Braxton Hicks Contractions • Feel rather uncomfortable/big/clumsy By Week 36, you will be tiring easily, may be having trouble finding a comfortable sleeping position and you may even be experiencing Braxton-Hicks contractions as your body gets prepared for the arrival of your new baby.

  18. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • May feel short of breath (as the uterus pushes up against the diaphragm) & the tired feelings return

  19. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • Back pain as your baby grows 12” Long • Foot pain, Leg pain, Hip Pain

  20. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • Baby drops into pelvis— “Lightening” • Have to urinate more often because baby is sitting on your bladder

  21. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • Small amount of thin fluid (colostrum) leaks from nipples • Breasts become larger/more engorged

  22. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • Navel pushes out • Begin to walk differently to accommodate weight/size of fetus

  23. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • You can see fetus move from the outside • You feel significant decrease in fetal kicking, but an increase in gentle rolling, stretching, and quiet periods

  24. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • Mom and Dad are getting more excited, prepared, and FREAKED OUT!

  25. 3rd Trimester Symptoms • NESTING INSTINCT • Brief “energy” spurt before labor and delivery
