  1. Action Plan

  2. Preventive healthcare Personal and environmental hygiene Exercise and food habits Avoid self medication Correct medicine and correct diagnosis Early treatment Energy conservation Social security Biomedical waste disposal Collective action Eco-friendly healthcare

  3. Preventive Healthcare • Preventive healthcare involves measures taken to identify and minimize risk factors for disease, improve the course of an existing disease and screening for early detection of disease. • Screening is a method of finding diseases in people who do not yet have any signs or symptoms of the disease being screened for. Early recognition and prevention of disease is an important part of healthcare because it detects disease at the initial and curable stages thereby preventing complications and co-morbidities. It is also a whole lot cheaper and effective than treating a full-blown disease at a later stage. • Preventive Healthcare also involves health promotion, which is aimed at modifying the individual’s social circumstance and lifestyles so that their health is improved (or maintained) and disease is prevented. • Another aspect of Preventive Healthcare is the early identification of high-risk individuals prone to major life-threatening illnesses like heart disease and cancers. This helps in taking timely, precautionary lifestyle modification measures or treatment. • The ultimate goal of preventive healthcare is to help people live longer, healthier lives.

  4. Personal and Environmental Hygiene Promoting a cleaner and healthier living environment can only be achieved by the observance of good personal, household and public hygiene the training programmes, which focus on the importance of maintaining environmental hygiene; teaching children, especially adolescents, about personal hygiene; need for pre-marital counselling for adolescents; and parenting as well as adolescent health care issues.

  5. Exercise and Food Habits Following a consistent exercise routine and a balanced, varied diet are the two best things you can do to improve and maintain your health. If you're trying to lose weight or cut your risk of disease, these two habits in combination are far more effective than any crash diet or nutritional supplement. Regular exercise lowers blood pressure and cuts the risk of many severe diseases, including osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease and some cancers It can also alleviate symptoms of existing health problems and boost mental and physical health overall. Some exercises, particularly aerobic routines, increase daily energy levels, and weight training can help improve posture and metabolism and build strength.

  6. Avoid Self Medication Self-care, including self-medication, has been a feature of healthcare for many years. Nowadays people are keen to accept more personal responsibility for their health status and to obtain as much sound information as possible from expert sources in order to help them make appropriate decisions in health care. Governments and health insurers are increasingly encouraging self-care, including self medication when appropriate, as one means of limiting the rate of increase in third party funding of health care. Pharmacists are advisors to the public on everyday health care and key figures in the supply of medicines. Their education and training equips them to provide sound advice on medicines. Pharmacists and the manufacturers of non-prescription medicines share the common goals of providing high quality service to the public and encouraging the responsible use of medicines. These are best achieved by adequate labelling and by ensuring that any necessary additional information or professional advice is given by a pharmacist or physician. The companies represented by member associations of WSMI provide non-prescription medicines, the quality, safety and efficacy of which are guaranteed through the granting of marketing authorisations or other legally recognised procedures, operating through regulatory authorities in individual countries Advertising is helpful in informing people about medicines that are available without prescription. It should always be responsible and should not discourage the individual from seeking advice from a pharmacist or physician.

  7. Correct Medicine, Correct Diagnosis Most people, at one time or another, have received an incorrect diagnosis or seen a doctor who's been stumped by their symptoms. Often, it doesn't much matter, But misdiagnoses and wrong medication can also cost lives. Help the doctor make correct diagnosis by • Telling your whole history correctly • Asking questions • Verifying any shocking medical results • Being comfortable with your doctor • Allowing for the possibility of uncertainty

  8. Early Treatment • Seeking treatment as early as possible increases the chance of survival.

  9. Energy Conservation Energy conservation refers to efforts made to reduce energy consumption. Energy conservation can be achieved through increased efficient energy use, in conjunction with decreased energy consumption and/or reduced consumption from conventional energy sources. Energy conservation can result in increased financial capital, environmental quality, national security, personal security, and human comfort. Individuals and organizations that are direct consumers of energy choose to conserve energy to reduce energy costs and promote economic security. Industrial and commercial users can increase energy use efficiency to maximize profit.

  10. Social Security Social security is a concept which states that everyone, as a member of society, has the right to social security and is entitled to realization, through national effort and international co-operation and in accordance with the organization and resources of each State, of the economic, social and cultural rights indispensable for his dignity and the free development of his personality. In simple term, this means that the signatories agree that society in which a person lives should help them to develop and to make the most of all the advantages (culture, work, social welfare) which are offered to them in the country. Social security is more applicable in the conditions, where large numbers of citizens depend on the formal economy for their livelihood. Through a defined contribution, this social security may be managed.

  11. Biomedical Waste Disposal Biomedical waste, (BMW), consists of solids, liquids, sharps, and laboratory waste that are potentially infectious or dangerous and are considered bio-waste. It must be properly managed to protect the general public, specifically healthcare and sanitation workers who are regularly exposed to biomedical waste as an occupational hazard. Biomedical waste differs from other types of hazardous waste, such as industrial waste, in that it comes from biological sources or is used in the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of diseases. As far as possible, purchase of reusable items made of glass and metal should be encouraged. Select non PVC plastic items. Adopt procedures and policies for proper management of waste generated, the mainstay of which is segregation to reduce the quantity of waste to be treated. Establish effective and sound recycling policy for plastic recycling and get in touch with authorised manufactures.

  12. Collective Action Problems to the environment, and thus health, occurs due to the collective actions of the people; the solution to this problem is also the same. It is important that every individual plays a part in the eco-friendly healthcare initiative.

  13. What can we do? • Identify hazardous substances to prevent pollution • Implement green purchasing & choose reusable products • Reduce & recycle solid waste • Reduce chemical waste • Reduce water consumption • Reduce use of natural resources • Use sustainable energy forms to be more energy efficient • Improve environmental health • Improve patient safety
