  1. 6 Kingdom Foldable • Match up the ends of your paper as if you doing a hamburger fold…DO NOT FOLD YOUR PAPER! • Use your pencil to make a light mark on the inside of your paper. • Shutter fold… fold you paper in on both side and let them meet in the middle of your paper • Fold each side • Using a ruler(share) you will make a tiny mark every 7 ½ cm

  2. Draw lines across your shutters where you made your marks at every 7 ½ cm. • On the inside draw a line down the middle of your paper. This will give you an idea on the space you will have for your information. • You will then cut the lines on the shutters, but be sure not to cut the back side of your foldable( this will give you three tabs on each side of your foldable).

  3. On each tab, at the top, you will write each kingdom on the tabs shown ARCHAEBACTERIA “Ancient bacteria” EUBACTERIA “true bacteria” PROTISTA FUNGI PLANTAE ANIMALIA

  4. Archaebacteria • Cell Structure: Prokaryotic-no nucleus • Cells: unicellular • Characteristics: live in harsh environments, old bacteria • Mode of nutrition: autotrophs or heterotrophs

  5. Eubacteria –“true bacteria” • Cell Structure: Prokaryotic-no nucleus • Cells: unicellular • Characteristics: common bacteria, beneficial and disease causing • Mode of nutrition: autotrophs or heterotrophs

  6. Protista • Cell Structure: Eukaryotic-has a nucleus • Cells: unicellular or multicellular • Characteristics: fungi-like, plant-like (algae: multicellular), animal-like • Mode of nutrition: autotrophs or heterotrophs

  7. Fungi • Cell Structure: Eukaryotic-has a nucleus • Cells: unicellular (yeast) or multicellular (mushrooms) • Characteristics: release enzymes to digest food (grow on organisms they feed upon) • Mode of nutrition: absorptive heterotrophs

  8. Plantae • Cell Structure: Eukaryotic-has a nucleus • Cells: multicellular • Characteristics: has a cell wall (cellulose) and chloroplast • Mode of nutrition: autotrophs

  9. Animalia • Cell Structure: Eukaryotic-has a nucleus • Cells: multicellular • Characteristics: variety: non-chordates, chordates (spinal cord), and symmetry • Mode of nutrition: heterotrophs

  10. Pictures • One page for 2 students to share. • Cuts and glue as many pictures as you can on the front and back of the tab (flap). • Clean-up before asking for teacher signature. • All markers with caps inside markers bag • All pencils inside pencils bag • All glue stick with caps • Rulers and scissors • Place all of the above inside box • All cut-outs in trash, not inside box or on table.

  11. Paramecium • Now underneath the name of the kingdom on the outside of your foldable you can draw a picture of the organism that is in that kingdom. ecoli Pyrococcus furiosus

  12. Lab: Cladograms • DO NOT WRITE ON THE WORKSHEETS! • Read cladogram information. • Refer to Animal Phyla and Animal Classification resource handouts for characterisics • On a separate sheet of paper write the answers to: • Part I: Cladogram analysis • Part II: Create your own cladogram (both chart and cladogram)

  13. Continuation Lab • Create a cladogram for the 5 species at your table. • Only 1 per table • Use the resource material for characteristics (derived characters) • Must be neat, use rulers to draw lines • Must draw and color species

  14. Clean-up procedures • Clean-up before asking for teacher signature. • Staple everyone’s work together, except the cladogram on cosntruction paper. • All markers with caps inside markers bag • All pencils inside pencils bag • Rulers and scissors • Place all of the above inside box
