Butlers Trust Award/ Keith Bromley AwardPresented to Janet Lockhart Butlers Trust/Keith Bromley Award for Education & Skills Training Enhanced the educational provision for prisoners with dyslexia, ADHD and related issues, becoming an expert in assessing and addressing complex learning needs. Developing links with external Agencies to help ensure that prisoners’ needs continue to be met on release and enhance their chances of finding employment.

  4. The beginning of my journey • 1999 – lots of good work going on in prisons but everyone working in isolation. • KPT’s – Key Performance Targets. • Lack of training or awareness of how to support disabilities and learning difficulties.

  5. The beginning of a QUALITY provision • CfBT Dyslexia Training. • SFL Conferences – HMP Kennet • Dyslexia Action Training – Hidden Difficulties Training • Networking meeting running alongside Functional Skills meeting.

  6. Inclusion Champions • The introduction of Inclusion Champions throughout the whole of The Manchester College Justice Services • Positive and Negatives that have been highlighted

  7. 730 Days – Our Achievements • A National Director of Learning & Support. • Learning Support Manager in each of our 4 regions. • Planned Learning Support Specific CPD. • Trained over 100 Inclusion Champions.

  8. Our Expectations • Large numbers of staff across the country studying a L5 Staff training in individual establishments. • A Practitioner’s Forum planned to share existing expertise and encourage succession. • A planned national roll out and expansion of assistive technology and training.

  10. Thank you for giving us the chance to deal with our problems. NOW we have a chance of breaking the cycle.
