  1. Parents and StudentsWelcome to 7th Grade

  2. 7th Grade has nothing to fear!!!! • Teachers are available for help before school, at lunch and after school. • Students grades are available on line at elks.net. Get your child’s ID and password from the office. • Grade sheets will be sent home with your child each week to keep you informed on how your child is progressing.

  3. Parent Teacher Conferences Please call Mrs. Buck to arrange a conference whenever you feel a need. (333-6700) We will notify parents for a conference if we feel there is a problem, but please don’t wait for us to contact you.

  4. 7th Grade Staff • Mrs. Krueger - Science • Mrs. Rugg - English • Mrs. Buck - Math • Mrs. Cely - American History • Mr. Chilcott - Special Education • All teachers will be teaching Reading Please feel free to contact all teachers either before or after school - call 333-6700 and they will transfer your call.

  5. Attendance is extremely important, but when you simply can’t be in school, please follow these steps: • You may call (333-6700) to get your child’s work. Please call by 9 A.M. and pick up after 2:30 P.M. • If your child will be absent for an extended period of time, please let the school know ASAP and allow two days for the teachers to compile the work. • If your child prefers to get their work upon returning to school, they should enter the school that morning at 7:30A.M. and visit with each teacher about what they missed and set up a plan for how they will complete the work. • Students have 2 days for every day they are absent to complete their work. Please help your child to complete their work on time!!! Missing work from being absent is one of the biggest reasons for low grades.

  6. Reward Days…… • Reward Days occur at the end of each 9 weeks - Students may NOT have any referrals nor any D’s or F’s in any subjects to attend. • End of the year Reward Trip- Travel on the Grand Canyon Railroad and tour the Grand Canyon!!!!!!! - Students may not have any more than 4 referrals.(a referral = 1 offense, 1 suspendable offense = 2 referrals, 2nd suspendable offense = 3 referrals. - Students may not have a failing grade for the year in any subject!

  7. Mrs. Rugg - Language Arts • Focus on Writing Process - Prewriting - Drafting - Revising - Editing • Focus on 6 Traits of Writing • Ideas • Organization • Voice • Word Choice • Sentence Fluency • Conventions

  8. Mrs. Buck Math • Students should enter the 7th grade with a firm foundation in basic math facts - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. • Students will be introduced to Algebra and Geometry • Students may call me at home in the evenings if they are struggling with their homework. • Students will generally have homework four nights a week.

  9. Mrs. Cely U.S. History • Emphasis on American History from the Civil War through the Great Depression • Study the Structure and Foundation of Government • Analyze World and Regional Geography and • Focus on Economics and the impact it has on the development of the U.S.

  10. Mrs. Krueger Science • Lab Activities Data Analysis, Graphing • Ecology - Arizona Emphasis • Earth/Space Science • Geology - Grand Canyon Emphasis

  11. Reading • Reading Strategies • Genres • Elements of Literature • Vocabulary and Spelling • Types of Reading

  12. Parental Paper Work • Please read carefully. • Sign all forms, call the office if you have a question about district papers or call individual teachers if you have a question about a paper from their classroom • Have your child return all papers to their homeroom teacher.

  13. Dress Code • Please read through the dress code in the student handbook. • Shorts must be mid thigh or longer (not fingertip. • Shirts must have at least a cap sleeve and not show the stomach area when a child is moving. • Pants need to be able to let a child keep them up on their hips and be able to stay up high enough in the back when a child sits down so private areas do not show.

  14. Sports…… • An excellent way for your child to be involved and receive structured physical fitness. • Demands students keep their grades up, to be eligible. • Requires a need for organizing your time. - Practice or a game each day after school. - Students will miss many of their afternoon classes. They will need to submit homework due that day and get their assignments in order to be prepared the next day.

  15. Extracurricular Activities • Fine Arts - Choir, Band, Jazz Band, Steel Drums, Strings, Drama • Student Government - Class Officer or a Classroom Representative • Sports - Cheerleading, Football, Softball, Volleyball, Wrestling, Basketball and Track (The community also offers AYSO Soccer, Little League Basketball, Softball and Baseball plus a Swim Team.)

  16. Make your 7th Grade Year Successful!!! • Be in attendance if at all possible, when absent you miss out on valuable discussions and observations, in class presentations and experiments. • Make up work from being absent quickly. • Be prepared each day with school work and supplies!!! • Have a Positive Attitude • Get involved!!!! • Remember “Character Counts” • Ask for help as often as needed!! Ask questions - we are here to help….
