  1. Mrs. Jennifer Gabehart Mrs. Lisa Kearney Mrs. Shelly Young Kindergarten Classes…Learning Safari Welcome, Parents & Students!

  2. Our classroom is a family. In our family, we have rules to help us get along with each other. Some of our rules are: • Listen when your teachers talk. • Follow all directions. • Be kind with your words and actions. • Work quietly. Do not disturb others. • Keep your hands to yourself. • Walk; do not run. • Remain quiet in the hallway. Classroom Rules

  3. Daily Folders *This folder will be provided for you as the Take-Home Folder. Your child’s folder will be brought home EVERY DAY. It will hold daily assignments, notes, study guides, incomplete work, homework, etc. *Students are to complete unfinished work or homework. Work not returned the following day will be completed during playground or center-time (if extra copies are available). *Please check the Daily Folder EVERY EVENING. You will want to review daily work and remove items that do not need to be returned. *A weekly newsletter concerning the current week will be sent home on Monday.

  4. Lunch: 11:40-12:10 Monday-Thursday 10:35-11:05 Friday Student lunches are $1.50. You may send a check or cash for a week or a month at a time. Please send it in an envelope or plastic bag marked “____’s lunch money.” Ms. Betty Sue, Ms. Peggy, and Ms. Lisa will put this in your child’s account each Monday. Activity: 1:50-2:30 Monday-Thursday 11:50-12:30 Friday The Activity schedule will follow a 6-day rotation: Technology, Library, PE, Music, Art, & PE. The weekly schedule will be in your newsletter every Monday. Lunch and Activity

  5. Each day students will bring a healthy snack and a *juice box-type drink if they are not purchasing milk.*No soft drinks, please. We would like for you to send $1.20 each Monday if your child will be drinking milk. We will only purchase white milk at snack time, at lunch they may choose chocolate, white, or strawberry. No Snack on Friday! Snack-time

  6. All teachers will follow our school discipline policy which is explained in our student handbook. The number of conduct cuts during each 9-week grading period determines the student’s conduct grade. It also determines your child’s participation in extra activities and incentive programs. I use a positive reinforcement system for behavior. Students who show excellent behavior every day will earn a treasure from the Treasure Box on Fridays. Daily rewards for following directions, showing good hallway behavior, being a good friend, etc. are also given. Cardinal Cash will be used again this year to reward good behavior. More info to come… Discipline Policy

  7. Students who repeatedly break our classroom rules will earn a conduct cut. Notes will be sent home letting parents know that the student has been given 2 or more warnings but has continued to exhibit inappropriate behavior which lead to a conduct cut. Please sign and return these written notices the following school day. No warnings will be issued for severe behavior including, but not limited to, hitting, fighting, destroying property, bullying, and rude language. Actions such as these will result in an immediate conduct cut. Discipline Policy continued

  8. We encourage students to learn the responsibility of emptying their backpacks, turning in homework, preparing for the day, etc. It is very important for every child to come in the classroom by him/herself after Morning Meeting. A “morning work” assignment will begin as soon as your child arrives from Morning Meeting. Morning Routine

  9. Students will have some homework this year. Each letter that we study may have some fun family activities to complete at home. Students will bring home little books in bags to read, return them in the bags and sign the reading log. Homework

  10. The best way to contact us is to email us. We check our email in the morning, at the end of the school day, and during my planning period, if time permits. Our email address’s are lisa.kearney@taylor.kyschools.us , jennifer.gabehart@taylor.kyschools.usmichelle.young@taylor.kyschools.us If you need to call us during the school day, please leave a message in the office. We will return your call as soon as possible. This prevents the interruption of classroom instruction. If you need to call us after school hours, we usually work in our classrooms until around 4:00. If you need to request a parent/teacher conference with us, please send a note in your child’s Boomerang Folder. We will contact you in order to schedule a meeting. Contacting Us

  11. If your child has a last-minute change in his/her afternoon routine, please call the office before 1:30. This is one of the busiest times of the day for the office staff and for us. It is also difficult for the office to pass the message quickly if we are outside the classroom. Our school day begins at 8:00 am with Morning Meeting & ends at 2:50 with bus riders being released. At 3:00 car riders are released. In your child’s Orientation folder, you will find an update concerning students who are picked up in the afternoons. We will have Early Release EVERY Friday at 12:50. Students may participate in Friday Wrap-UP until 2:50 on Fridays. However, there is NO transportation! Other Notes

  12. We will be teaming this year. We will be ability-grouping for reading, spelling, and math. Let’s Have a Great Year!
