  19. Dress Code

  20. Can you think of a model of class, excellence, and professionalism?

  21. Latin Academy’s Dress Code reinforces our college-prep mission Girls • Latin Academy blue short-sleeved Polo-style shirt (only one top button may be unbuttoned). • Khaki pants (no jeans, no side pockets or loops, no bell bottoms, no slit bottoms, no overalls) or Khaki skirt/skort • Solid Black belt with pants, no belt for skirts/skorts (mandatory) • Black shoes (may be dress or sneakers). Shoes must be ALL BLACK, with no color other than black on them (sole, upper, etc.) No sandals Boys • Latin Academy blue short-sleeved Polo-style shirt (only one top button may be unbuttoned). • Khaki pants (no jeans, no side pockets or loops, no bell bottoms, no slit bottoms, no overalls) • Solid Black belt (mandatory) • Black shoes (may be dress or sneakers). Shoes must be ALL BLACK, with no color other than black on them (sole, upper, etc.) No sandals

  22. These items are strictly prohibited for girls and boys • Hats, bandanas, head wraps, bonnet, jeans, jackets (except when outdoors), beepers, or any other inappropriate clothing • Hair clips or ties larger than 1.5 inches • Headbands tied in the front • Headbands on boys • Distracting hairstyles: No non-natural colors (i.e. pink, orange) or designs cut into young men’s hair. This is a professional environment

  23. More Restricted Items • Distracting accessories—excessive jewelry, upper ear piercings, nose rings, earrings for boys, press on eye lashes, tinted glasses, colored contact lenses • Bracelets other than a wristwatch • Makeup, including lip gloss

  24. No Lip Gloss?! Try…

  25. Cell Phones • Are permitted to be at school, but: • Must stay in student’s backpacks during school • Can only be used in cases of emergency and with teacher permission • Students in possession of their phones during school will have their phones confiscated • First confiscation: returned at the end of the day; subsequent confiscation: parents must come to school to retrieve • We are not responsible for any lost or damaged phones

  26. Final Notes • Chains and necklaces must be tucked underneath a shirt at all times • No significant stains on clothing • The LACS Uniform cannot be altered or covered in any way

  27. What happens if you’re not in uniform?

  28. Are you ready to come to Latin?

  29. The Griffin Hey Latin… We in the front… We in the back… We’re too smart… And that’s a fact… Latin Life… That’s where it’s at!

  30. Code of Conduct and Discipline

  31. LACS is very strict • Our rules are generally simple, but we enforce them relentlessly • Our structure is the foundation of our performance • The Latin Rules: • Honesty—Tell the truth • Respect—Yourself and others • Responsibility—Be accountable for what you do • Determination—Don’t quit

  32. The LACS Paycheck System

  33. Detention • Detention is a punitive (meant to punish) measure taken to correct negative behavior • It can involve writing reflection, writing apology letters, rote copying, or other service to the Academy • If you would like, we will notify you by phone immediately if your child has earned detention • Detention can be assigned directly or can be earned by losing paycheck dollars

  34. Restriction • Restriction is a more serious punishment that involves daily detention, silent reflective lunch, exclusion from Friday activities • If restriction is not effective, suspension and expulsion will be pursued

  35. The Latin Lounge • LACS offers its best behaving students the opportunity to access the Latin Lounge during lunch. The top 8-12 students in running paycheck average are able to eat in the lounge, play xbox, eat special lunch, and generally enjoy the benefits of being a good Latin Scholar.

  36. Practice the Paycheck System

  37. Uniforms and Transportation

  38. Uniforms • 7th grade uniform shirts must be purchased from Prestige Apparel • 7th graders may wear either a black LACS polo or a Carolina Blue LACS polo. They cannot wear their old “Latin Blue” polos from last year • You must wear the LACS approved shirt.

  39. Transportation • You told us previously whether or not you will require transportation. • If you do not need the bus, please don’t take a seat. We have 129 seats on the buses and over 175 students • The bus is a privilege which can be revoked for improper behavior

  40. For 7th graders who don’t have to go to re-orientation… • School starts August 12th. • Busses run and school dismisses as usual • Come in uniform on the first day!

  41. For 7th graders who do have to go to re-orientation… • Re-orientation = a chance to get the year off to a good start • Required for students who earned it through poor paychecks last year • School starts August 5th. • Students are in school August 5th and 6th. Re-orienting 7th graders do not come to school the 7th 8th or 9th • Busses run as usual, but school dismisses at 2pm
