  2. The Sea • The Earth has massive oceans that store the majority of our water • At sea, the sun heats the top layer of the water- it warms up and begins to evaporate. • Wind also speeds up evaporation.

  3. The atmosphere • The water vapour rises high into the air, where it begins to cool down. It condenses on small particles of dust. • The dust and water droplets form clouds, which are blown towards the land.

  4. Inland • The clouds gain more and more water droplets, and get even cooler as they hit hills and mountains. • When the cloud is ‘full up’ with water, it begins to rain. • If it is really cold the rain can form snow.

  5. What happens to the water? • Some water drains into rivers and streams. • Some water sinks through the soil and rock to become groundwater. • Some water is used by plants and animals. • How do plants use up water?
