  2. Aim • How can periodic trends be used to classify unknown elements?

  3. Homework • Write a 1-page explanation of why you organized your periodic table in the way that you did. • DUE FRIDAY

  4. Notes • Don’t organize A, Q, X, and Y! • The elements will not form a perfect rectangle

  5. Examples • Unstable oxides and chlorides are often in the same group as Ne • Melting points generally increase down groups • Look at the phases on the periodic table for hints • Same hydride/oxide/chloride and much different MP/IE means different groups
