About March to College Start time delayed an hour to accommodate work schedules • 5K walk/run in Grant Park • Wednesday, April 4th • Time • Fun Run begins at 5:30pm • Entertainment begins at 4:00pm • Registration opens at 3:00pm • Registration Fees • $30 registration fee for adults • $10 for children • $25 for families (2 children + one adult) • Goals • $1000 per AIM High student • $100 shopping trip for those that meet goal • $35,000 in sponsorships • Each student brings 20 participants • Donations • Individual pages for each company • Prizes for incentive teams raising the most money • Website • www.marchtocollege.org has everything you’re looking for This was added so parents can accompany younger kids • Two Desired Outcomes • Greater awareness of college at a younger age thereby increasing college attendance among minority students • AIM High expansion for more students

Strategic Fundraising • Audience • Who are the different groups of people that I know? • Message • What message will motivate each person to act? • Please do this for me… • Education inequities bother you…this will help • My mentee is such a great kid because…you can make a difference in his/her life • Running is your life… • Media • How will I reach the person? • Old style (snail mail, phone, ring the doorbell, etc.) • New age (social media) • Location specific

Ideas for Raising Donors and Registrants • Use Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter • Invite mentees to speak in front of potential donors/participants • Create competitions for donations • Penny Wars • Expand focus beyond co-workers • Email stories about your students • Post YouTube videos • Post flyers and posters • To request postcards, contact Diana Nielander at dnielander@gmail.com or call 847-231-6223. • Bring the Donation Form to athletic games or other group events. (Think girl scout cookies) • Create a community service project • Create very short video interviews with students and mentors together and post them on YouTube • Speak/write from your heart

Mentor Team Strategies • Company match • March Madness • Share the Pot • Know who loves to run; keep a list (easiest targets) • Ask company to pay registration fee for participants (budget might already exist) • Cover friends and family of staff members too • Ask company to do an “event” that employees pay for and then donate the proceeds • Jeans day • Cocktail party • Chili cookoff or other • Social networking • Post on facebook and twitter – support me in this race with link to donation page • Ask mentee for email about how AIM High has positively impacted them and forward it with donation request • Raffle a TV or ipad

Will they get a t-shirt?
