Overview • The transition to college should be seamless. • Libraries should be an integral part of the transition to college. • PSEO and Dual Enrollment pave the way for collaboration between high schools and higher education. • The ‘campus experience’ goes well beyond attending classes on campus.

  3. Prepare Them for the Academic Library Experience • Encourage students to visit academic libraries or bring academic librarians to high school. • Make students aware of Transitioning to College programs on the Web. • Introduce students to the Library of Congress Classification System. • Collaborate with your local academic library for student access to and other resources.

Prepare for the Academic Library Experience • Make sure all dual enrollment students have a college ID card or access to library barcode. • Use technology and set up virtual class visits by campus library personnel. • Introduce students to resources in higher education. • Work closely with the technology coordinator to prevent issues with school network filtering.

  5. Use Technology to Bridge the Gap • Setup virtual connections between the high school site and campus. • Utilize learning management systems for the dissemination of information and services. • Utilize synchronous connections between the campus and high school. • Work closely with technology coordinators.

Distance Learning and the Library • Become familiar with the Ohio Learning Network and OLN initiatives. • E4Meand • Introduce students to learning/course management systems like Blackboard, Angel, Sakai and Moodle. • Use academic library resources like *Library Guidelines – Grades 9-12 – Technology Literacy

College Courses at the School: What Are the Issues? • IT collaboration. • ITC and school network firewalls • WebWasher and other filters • Access to OhioLINK • http://www.ohiolink.edu/ostaff/it/firewalls.html • Library collaboration. • Document and resource delivery • Student Services collaboration. • Textbook access • Counseling services

  9. Prepare Students for College Courses • Keep them on course for success. • Freshman orientation and success courses. • OCAN and other funded initiatives. • College research.

  10. Information Literacy Are you using TRAILS? * Set up an account and begin testing students. * Find effective ways to use the results. * Build access into course management systems. * Keep statistics of scores and progress made. *Library Guidelines – Grades 9-12 – Information Literacy
