Cooling for SM18 Primary water Cryo plant: Compressors, cold box, vacuum pump ≈ 250 m3/h • Primary circuit: • 3 cooling towers (2 initialy) • 1 distribution pump of 520 m3/h • 1 back up pump (300 m3/h) • 18 years old never refurbished • Control S5 RF cooling station: 65m3/h No stand by pump Control S5 Demineralised water String cooling station: 150 m3/h No stand by pump Control S5 Demineralised water

Cooling for SM18 • Primary circuit: • Poor condition of the piping • Change the control system • motors of the fan to replace • Non conformity for the water treatment • Regulating valves running out of spares Increasing the primary cooling capacity of the SM 18 ? - SPS ring already overloaded. - No room in the pumping station • Demineralised water circuits : • Change the control system • Good state • Add one stand by pump ?

Cooling for bldg 163 Primary water Cryo lab: Compressor (in bldg 253) 22 m3/h Compressor + aux.(in bldg 163) 20 m3/h Compressor + aux.( in bldg 165) 37 m3/h • Primary circuit of the Bldg 201: • 2 cooling towers for a total of 2 MW • 2 distribution pumps of 175 m3/h • Installed in 2002 Other users: compressed air production of Meyrin, chillers of bldg 13, … ≈ 90 m3/h • EST area cooling station in Bldg 355: • Cooling capacity of 10 MW • 3 distribution pumps of 300 m3/h • Refurbished in 2003 Fresca: Cable testing ≈ 13 m3/h Demineralized water

Cooling for 163 • Primary circuit of the Bldg 201: • good state, no particular problem • Increasing the primary cooling capacity of the 163 ? • An increase of 10% of the cryo lab cooling load without any work • Demineralised water: • Physics stops of the Est area because of the bldg 163 • Shutdown not compatible with Fresca activities Even with the same load a new specific demineralized cooling station has to be installed

Cooling for Bldg 180 Cryo plant: 3 Compressors (bldg 279) and 1 (bldg 180), cold box, ≈ 250 m3/h Primary water • West area cooling station: • 3 cooling towers : 21MW • Omega circuit : 1distribution pumps of 250 m3/h Atlas cooling station: ≈13m3/h Demineralised water Demineralised circuits For the west area

  7. Cooling for bldg 180 West area cooling station: No maintenance for many years. Can't run without a major renovation (control, electrical and mechanical parts) Upgrade of the water treatment needed. Increasing the cooling capacity is possible. • Demineralised water cooling station for the bldg 180: • good state • Ventilation of the bldg 180: • several air handling units out of order, no spare parts → temperature beneath 10 C in the bldg.

Cooling for bldg 892 Primary water Cryo : 7 compressors (6 running at the same time, diffusion pump,.. ≈240 m3/h • North area for primary circuit : • 4 cooling towers of 12.7 MW • 5 distribution pumps of 763 m3/h • 33 years old never refurbished • Control S5 • Cooling station of the Bldg 867: • Cooling capacity of 940 kW • 2 distribution pumps of 105 m3/h • Control system changed in 2008 Power supplies ??? m3/h Demineralized water

Cooling for bldg 892 • Primary circuit: • Control consolidation is needed • Increasing the cooling capacity ? • - Primary flow can be increased • Demineralized water circuit: • - 1 pump to replace • Maximum load on the low pressure circuit • Increasing the cooling capacity ? • - Will be costly

Summary • SM18: • several consolidations for a good reliability • Increase the cooling capacity could be very costly • Bldg 163: • Fresca should have a dedicated demineralised water cooling station. • Bldg 180: • Major works to implement for the primary water to be able to restart the system • The cooling capacity for the primary circuit is high but no increase possible for • demineralised water. • Blgd 892: • Control consolidation has to be carried out • The cooling capacity for the primary circuit is high but no increased possible for • demineralised water.
