  13. Jennie Reid Stats • Current enrollment - 425 students. • K-5th Campus • Jennie Reid Elementary met state accountability standards on state assessments for student performance last year. • Accountability Rating: 85 = B • 100% highly qualified staff based on required standards

  14. JRE Vision: • We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to be educated in a way that prepares them for college if they so choose to attend. JRE Mission Statement: • To develop in every student critical thinking skills and great character traits that will afford them every opportunity to be prepared for college by building relationships, holding high expectations, and learning within a caring and collaborative environment.

Title I School • Criteria: 40% or more of a campus’ students must come from families that qualify under the United States Census’ definition of low income • Jennie Reid: 42.4% at the end of the 2018 school year • What does it mean to be a Title I campus? • Elementary and Secondary Education Act - 1965 • Federal Funds are authorized for: • Instructional materials • Tutorials • Resources to support educational programs • Parent Nights • Professional development

How Can You Help? • Help us protect and value the instructional time students receive while on campus by avoiding truancy: tardies, absences, early-outs, unless students are ill; Jennie Reid attendance in 2017 was 96.2%, GOAL THIS YEAR: 97% • Check completed homework, check child’s folder daily for graded papers and communications from the school • Make a commitment to attend Open House, parent conferences, and parent nights • Consult your child’s teacher or school staff whenever you have concerns. We are here to help! • Stay aware of your child’s academic progress. Log into Home Access regularly. Praise all earnest efforts and accomplishments!

  18. Important Information • Doors open at 7:15 am. Staff members will guide/walk your child to gym/cafeteria, if needed. • Our school day begins at 8:00 am. Children are considered tardy if they are not in the building at 8:10 am. If you arrive after 8:10, please DO NOT drop your child off in the back of the building. They will need to be escorted into the office through the front doors and signed in. • Safety is our number one priority for drop off and dismissal. Please stay in the line that enters off of Fairmont for drop-off and either line for pick-up in the afternoon. Please do not exit your vehicle.

  19. Important Information • Please do not drop your children off in the front of the building at any time. This is a loading/unloading zone for busses and daycares only. • Please call before 2:30 to make transportation changes. If you know before the day begins, please send a note with your child. • Take care of background checks early if you plan to attend any activities at JRE. This can be located in the parent portal on the website. Stop by the computer lab to fill it out tonight.

  20. Dress Code Reminders A few reminders… • Shoes must be closed toe and heel (no sandals) & have rubber soles • Socks must be worn at all times • Leggings must be worn with a skirt, or long tunic (mid-thigh or longer) • Hoods must be off when in the building • No holes, tears, or rips, including fashion rips that expose skin • Shorts must be mid-thigh length or longer • No make-up Jennie Reid T-Shirts are for sale in the foyer!

  21. Attendance • Attendance is critical to student success! • Arriving on time helps students get the day started on a positive note. • Mondays and Fridays are the most missed days. Monday new material is being introduced and Fridays are assessment days. • Attendance affects our STAAR distinctions. • Perfect Attendance cannot be earned if a child has tardies or early outs unless you have a doctor’s excuse.

  22. Safety • Uniform safety protocols and signage • Drills will be held the first 4 weeks of school • “See Something, Say Something” • Fences added to limit foot traffic through the campus

National Blue Ribbon • Jennie Reid is one of only 26 Texas public schools to be named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School! • We were chosen for this honor as an exemplary high performing school, as measured by state assessments. • We were recognized at the Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony in Washington DC, in October, 2017.

  24. No Excuses University is a way to promote college readiness beginning in elementary school.
