  5. Calendar Calendar: Each child takes turns teaching the class Such questions asked are: What is today?, What will tomorrow be?, What was yesterday? Recognizing pattern Manipulating coins to match the number in the month. Keeping track of the number of days in school.

  6. Community Circle Community Circle: Children are the teacher Practice letters and sounds Weather and graphing Counting and working with numbers to 100. Children are given a vast array of books based on the theme. A book is read to them by the teacher.

  7. Language Arts The children learn letters, letter sounds and take apart and put together words by direct teacher instruction and literacy centers. They work with high frequency words. Activities usually incorporate fine motor skills such as cutting, gluing and coloring. The children learn to write with lines and through the making of simple books. Pre-reading skills are encouraged and the children work with leveled reader based on each child’s ability.

  8. Math Math: • Everyday Math Program • Hands-on Learning • Using life experiences to learn how math plays into our Everyday lives. • 4 quarterly assessments given before report cards. A copy is given to parents. Areas of focus: • Patterns • Counting, skip counting by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s • Writing numbers • Recognizing numbers • Shapes • Time

  30. Expectations/Rules/Discipline • Each student will work to his/her maximum potential every day. • Teachers will establish classroom rules. • Discipline may include: • Loss of recess • Removal from class • Detention • Office referral

  32. PTO/Parent Involvement • Monthly meetings • Volunteers are needed for various events, see school newsletters for dates and additional information. • PTO info/minutes are updated monthly on the school website.

  33. School Partnership THSB- Terre Haute Savings Bank • They support numerous school activities throughout the year, including the Character Ed. Program Kiwanis Club • They support our BUG program throughout the school year. Kids Hope Mentors • Help students in weekly activities as they are good role models and show support for our students.

  34. Daily Schedule • 8:00 Student Arrival • 8:05 Students go to classes • 8:15 Tardy bell rings • 2:40 Bus riders are dismissed • 2:45 All other students dismiss • Students begin arriving at 7:45 a.m. unless they are in the YMCA School Aged-Child Care Before/After School Program.

  35. Attendance • Goal- 95.5% or higher • Procedures- Call the office before 10:00 a.m. on the day your child is absent. Our health assistant will call to verify absence if we have not received notification. • Please schedule doctor/dentist appointments after school if possible.

  36. Attendance • Tardy students need to check in at the health office after 8:30. • Letters and Home visits • Perfect attendance is recognized on the report card.

Summer Suggested Activities • Read to your child daily. • Engage them in a variety of fine motor and gross motor activities. • Give them jobs to help teach responsibility. • Writing name (first and last) • Know address and phone number • There will be summer activities to work on posted on our school website.
