What is Curriculum Extension Class? • CE Class helps students become more active and fluent readers. • We will review and implement different reading strategies/skills, read and analyze a variety of texts, enhance our test taking skills, and improve upon our ability to respond to open-ended reading items.

  3. Ladder’s To Success 2 Leveled Readers Compass Learning Odyssey Daily Work With Newspapers Action/Story Works Magazines Instructional Materials

  4. Compass Learning Odyssey • Addresses individual needs through instructional software, high interest literature, and teacher led direct instruction • Computerized pretests and post tests are given to determine learning paths for individualized instruction

  5. Tests/Quizzes Odyssey Assessments Do Now/Classroom Assignments Reading Log Participation Independent Reading/Conferencing GradingGrade calculations are based on point values of the following:

  6. Grading Scale • Outstanding (90 and above) • Satisfactory (70-89) • Unsatisfactory (below 70)

  7. Absence • Gather make up work and missed assignments from the Absence Bin the day you return to school • Three days to turn in missing work for every day of your absence • Must make up tests within three days of returning to school.

  8. Expectations • Arrive on time for class • Be respectful to all students and teachers • Be prepared for class

  9. Materials • Reading Log • Curriculum Extension Folder • Book for Independent Reading • Writing utensil (two pencils) • Assignment Book

  10. Interims and Report Cards • Sent home half-way through marking period • Four marking periods • Parents will be contacted when necessary

  11. Bathroom Policy • Students will be given 4 passes to use the bathroom over the course of one month. • When using their pass, they must sign out in log book, take the hall pass, leave quietly and return to class when done. • If a student has a medical condition which requires them to use the bathroom more often, please contact me privately.
