  2. What I have learnt • Include- • We completed gymnastics and netball this term. • Gymnastics: -linking movements -vaulting -spring-board -partner balance • Games you have played • Netball: -2 v 1 -defense vs attack • Memories from the activity • Netball was really fun, everyone participated and contributed. The gymnastics block was unnecessarily long. It was the first time we got to play netball, we should’ve given a longer period of time to enjoy the sport and to develop more skills in the unit.

  3. Learner Profile Links • What Learner Profile points have you been able to demonstrate in the units of work? • Caring: We encourage and understand our friends or teammates during gymnastics and netball. • Communicators: I communicate with my netball teammates to encourage them and spread my ideas efficiently. • Balanced: I understand the importance of balancing exercise, we do various types of exercises to improve different skills in netball and gymnastics.

  4. What I can do to improve • What must you do to improve your level. • This can include- • Skills to improve -To improve my skills in gymnastic I should risk the chance of failing and practice the balances, jumps, linking movements that I wasn’t good at. I could’ve also practiced more before the actual performance, and made sure it was aesthetic. -To improve my netball skills I should’ve practiced shooting more because I liked the position goal attack. If I was being one of the attackers that was allowed to shoot I would have to make sure I can shoot in order to help my team score points. I should’ve tried a position defense position as well to have more experience in netball. • Listening to the teachers/following instructions • Practising more • Attending

  6. Pulse Raising & Stretching • Sprinting back and forth • Side-steps • Jumping jacks • Grape vine • Butt kick stretch -Warms up the joints stretches hamstrings and butt muscles of the lower body. • High knee stretch -Activates the gluteus maximus, the large muscle that form the shape of the buttocks. • Cross-Chest stretch -Targets the oblique and hamstring muscles as well as those in the lower back • Triceps stretch -Stretches the triceps, extensors and flexors High knees Triceps stretch Butt kicks Cross-chest

  7. Skill Specific Exercise • The team can use bibs and a netball to practice, they’d only need half a court and a hoop. The attackers and the defenders will be separated, each group wearing a different color bib with their roles written on the back. The attackers are wing attack, goal attack, goal shooter. The defenders are wing defence, goal defence, goal keeper. Half of the time the centre will be helping the attacking team and the other half he/she will be helping the defending team. The two teams will pretend the other team is their opponent and play a mini game, so that they can practice their position and roles.

  8. Skill development • I’d like to develop shooting skills, because I can’t really shoot in a ball without a backboard. Netball is harder than basketball because there’s no backboard and your supposed the shoot the ball into the hoop. • To develop and improve a player’s shooting skills, he/she can try throwing the ball over a person’s head to practice throwing high. The player can also practice throwing the balls into hoops with he/she’s partner defending them; also try to shoot from further distance after a period of time.

  9. Skill Progression • Being able to throw the ball high is important because you need to throw the ball high enough to shoot it into the hoop without jumping. It’s also important for players to practice shooting with a partner because in a practical game there’d be players from the opponent defending you. Being able to shoot from a far distance is also very important because sometimes your teammates might not be able to shake off their defender so you have to be able to shoot from anywhere near the hoop.

  10. Netball Rules • Your only allowed to pivot when you receive the ball, your not allowed to run. • Different positions are allowed to enter different parts of the court, you can’t go anywhere you like. • When a person’s shooting he/she is not allowed to jump.

  11. Netball Positions • The seven different positions in netball are: goal shooter, goal attack, wing attack, centre, wing defence, goal defence, and goal keeper. • The main role for the goal attack is to work with the goal shooter to score goals. • The main role for the centre is to work with the wing attack and the goal attack; to take passes in the centre and to be the player linking up the attackers and defenders. • The main role for the goal defense is to look for opportunities and reduce the effectiveness of the opposing goal attack. Goal defense works with the goal keeper to prevent the opposing goal attack and goal shooter from scoring goals.

  12. Netball Fitness • Flexibility: Players need to be able to move freely around the court to find interception opportunities when defenders are blocking he/she. • Agility: Players must be able to change directions quickly to pass to another teammate, or to respond to a pass. • Speed: Most of the running in Netball is conducted over a short distance, so players must be able to sprint fast.
