  2. What is Section 3? Section 3 is a policy of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. The purpose of Section 3 is to promote employment, training, and contracting opportunities through the expenditure of certain HUD funds to residents of Public Housing, Section 8, and other low and very low income persons in the community. The Tampa Housing Authority and its contractors are required to comply with Section 3, and meet or exceed the Section 3 numerical goals for training, employment, and contracting opportunities. Employment with THA… We Practice What We Preach! • THA = 218 employees; 24 are Section 3 at all job levels • THA employment application asks Section 3 status to identify preference • THA employment opportunities are posted in offices that serve our residents • THA employment opportunities are posted on THA website • THA job openings are e-mailed to all employees

Section 3 Contracting with THA…We Walk The Walk As of July 31, 2009 • 16 registered Section 3 vendors • 3 registered Section 3 vendors actively under contract with THA • $52,120 expended w/ Section 3 vendors for CY09 • Encourage and educate site based management to do business with Section 3 businesses • Section 3 only competitions
