  1. The Battle of Alamo By: Duncan, Jamie, Alex, And Cymiene.

  2. Intro • Texas wanted to be free of Mexico so they started to fight for their independence. Texans used the Alamo as a base to defend Texas. • The Alamo was a makeshift military base used by the Texans to defend against the Mexicans from trying to attack near the Texas area.

  3. Intro Continued • Houston could not send enough troops to the Alamo for a successful defense. So Colonel Bowie and 30 other men to destroy it so the Mexicans couldn’t use it and it’s supplies, but Colonel Neill convinced that he shouldn’t and stay there while he went and got reinforcements. • The reinforcements arrived on February 3rd with Davy Crocket.

  4. Skirmishes Each night the Mexican army got closer to the Alamo The Mexicans shot 200 cannonballs at the Alamo plaza and missed Then the Texans reused the cannonballs On February 25 in the morning more then 250 Mexicans crossed the San Antonio River and took abandoned huts Several Texans tried to burn the huts Texans shot from far away so the Mexicans couldn’t shoot the other Texans who tried to burn the huts.

  5. Skirmishes part 2 After a 2 hour battle the Mexican soldiers retreated with 2 of their man killed and 4 wounded No Texans were hurt A blue northern ( really cold wind) made the temperature drop to 4 degrees Celsius

  6. Reinforcements • On February 25 a man named James Fannin ordered 320 men with supplies to go to the Alamo 90 miles away But they didn’t even go 1 mile • The Mexican army celebrated because they beat the Texans in the “battle’’ of San Patricio • The Mexican army reinforcements forced William Travis to have 3 men find his army They found them 20 miles from the Alamo • 50 of them were from Colonel James Fannins aborted mission

  7. Assault Preparations 1 • On march 4th , the day after Santa Anna’s reinforcements arrived, Santa Anna proposed an assault on The Alamo. • Many of his senior officers recommended that they wait for two 12lb. Cannons anticipated to arrive on March 7th.

  8. Assault Preparations 2 • That evening, a local women, likely Bowie’s cousin-in-law Juana Navarro Alsbury, approached Santa Anna to negotiate a surrender for The Alamo defenders. • According to historians, this visit increased Santa Anna’s impatience. • Legend holds at some time point on March 5th Travis gathered his men and explained that an attack was imment.

  9. Just after midnight Mexican troops prepared for battle. As a precaution there were 500 troops ordered to surround the Alamo to insure no escape of Texan soldiers. At 5:30 am. Next the silence broke with men yelling many things such as “Come on boys!” or “No surrender boys!” (In Spanish). The battle was fierce as the Texans fired bits of metal out of cannons. Commander Duque was hit in the thigh by one of these bits of metal. Meanwhile Romero and his men brought down the East wall and they started pouringin. Exterior fighting

  10. Interior Fighting • The Mexican soldiers continued to attack and killed nearly every Texan in the Alamo but some Texans fled. The Mexican Troops took the next hour securing the building. • Then they realized that there was a Texan flag still flying so they attempted to fly the Mexican flag but four men died trying. • The last group of Texans were Davy Crocket and about ten other men. The Mexican troops attacked them so they were forced to move to the chapel. • Then they killed the last of the Texans.

  11. The aftermath of the Alamo • Santa Anna demanded that any survivors of Texans should be executed immediately . • Crockett's death is accurate. • He was found surrounded by 16 Mexican corpses. • Santa Anna claimed 600 Texans were killed and 300 wounded. • 400-600 Mexican soldiers were killed and about 300 wounded. • About 180 Texans were killed • Henry Warnell escaped from the battle.

  12. Aftermath continued • Henry Warnellwas a Texan, he died several months afterwards either during the battle or when he was a courier which means messenger. • The Texans bodies were stacked and burned the only one that they didn’t burn was the body of gregorio esparza. His brother Francisco, an officer in Santa Anna's army thought he should have a proper burial. A simple coffin inscribed with names of Travis, crockett, and bowie were filled with ashes from the funeral pyres.
