  2. The Alamo • The Alamo was built as a Spanish mission around 1744. • Sam Houston ordered it to be burned down. • The Alamo is located in San Antonio ,Texas. • The Alamo represents Texas courage and bravery. • The Battle of the Alamo was won by Mexico.

  3. Inside the Alamo “Efforts to preserve the Alamo have largely been an Anglo-American cause. The first major calls to restore parts of the Alamo occurred after 1860, as English-speaking settlers began to outnumber those of Mexican heritage. Many Tejanos viewed the Alamo as more than just a battle site. They or their ancestors had experienced the benefits of the Alamo complex when it served as a mission, a hospital, or a military post. Americans had arrived in Texas much later, when the Alamo no longer served in those roles, and they tended to see the complex solely in relation to the battle.” Wikipedia

Travis was the leader of the Texan soldiers at the Alamo. • Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett were some of the famous soldiers who fought and died in the Alamo. • Susana Dickenson was a brave woman who, along with her baby Angelina (see page 5), survived the Alamo. • Sam Houston was leader of the Texan army.

  5. Women and Children of the Alamo • Angelina Dickenson, Joe slave of William Travis and Susana Dickenson were some of few survivors of the Alamo. Angelina was only 15 months old when her father died and she and her mother where captured by Santa Anna.
