The simple answer is that it depends on the engine and how well-made the head is. In addition, the type of head you have will affect how much horsepower you get as well. When it comes to cylinder heads and horsepower, it is largely a myth that people believe to be true but isn't actually true.

A cylinder head is the main component in a reciprocating internal combustion engine and is typically made of cast aluminum or iron with intricate passageways for air, fuel, and oil. In the days of older engines, the heads were generally all cast iron. Modern engines have a variety of different types of cylinder heads. Here are some of the most common types of cylinder heads. Single overhead cam (SOHC). This type of head uses a single camshaft located on top of the

This type of head has two camshafts located on opposite sides of the cylinder bore and delivers air and fuel to the combustion chamber through two intake valves and two exhaust valves. 3. Pushrod. This type of head uses a rod that operates the valve to move it in and out of the chamber. 4. DOHC Twincam. This type of head has two cams with two valves for each cylinder that deliver air and fuel into the combustion chamber. 5. Liquid cooled. This type of head has liquid coolant circulating through the engine block to keep everything cool and prevent overheating. 6. Supercharged. This type of head uses a supercharger to increase airflow into the engine and create more horsepower and torque. 7. Water-cooled.
