  2. LITERACY Reading Workshop: Genre study: • Understanding characteristics of realistic fiction, historical fiction, adventure fiction, fantasy, short stories, poetry, and nonfiction

  3. LITERACY Reading Workshop: Guided Reading: • This time offers strategies that will build comprehension including making connections, synthesizing, repair strategies, determining what is important, making inferences, and questioning skills.

  4. LITERACY Reading Workshop: Teacher/student conferencing: • Conferencing provides student involvement in the learning process by sharing goals.

  5. LITERACY Reading Workshop: Independent Reading: • Students are provided choice of book selections from the Making Meaning novel resources, classroom library, and Hadley library.

  6. LITERACY Word Study  • Variety of resources • Academic vocabulary • Prefixes, suffixes, and root words • Strategies • Understand meaning • Parts of speech

  7. LITERACY Writing Process and Writing Products Formats: • Quick writes, journaling, narrative, expository, Argumentative, response to literature, poetry Six + 1 Traits: • Voice, Ideas, Organization, Word Choice, Conventions, Sentence Fluency, and Presentation

  8. LITERACY Conventions - CUPS • Capitalization • Usage • Punctuation • Spelling

  9. LITERACY Speaking and Listening  During Literacy class, students speak in group activities and in oral presentations. • Discussions • Presentations • Author’s Chair • Book Talks • Socratic Circle

  10. LITERACY Research and Study Skills • Choosing reliable sources • Note taking • Organizing notes • Paraphrasing • Works Cited
