  1. Welcome to 6th Grade

  2. A little about Mrs. Smith • Graduated with a degree in Earth Science Education, Minor in History • I LOVE the outdoors, I can’t get enough of it! • I’m really excited about teaching your kiddos at Kerr this year, Go Cougars! • Some of my favorite topics to learn about are astronomy, geology, and ancient life, to name a few!

  3. FYI: What to Expect! • I am expecting a little bundle of joy coming in the beginning of February! • This means there will be a long term sub in this class for a period of time in February and March. I will be keeping in contact with him/her throughout that time and planning the lessons so don’t worry about your kiddos missing anything!

  4. Required Supplies for Pre-AP and Regular Science classes • Each student MUST have a five-subject note spiral by the second day of class! We will be putting all notes, activities, lab work, and foldables here for the whole year! • Please make sure you bring a pencil with an eraser to class daily. Other materials we use often are, but not limited to: • Highlighters • Crayons, markers, colored pencils • Scissors • Rulers • Glue

  5. Website • http://smithscienceclass.wordpress.com/ • I will write a new blog post aboutonce a week letting you know what we will be doing the following week. I will also post due dates, testing days, and other important information like notes from class.

  6. My Goal this Year… To help you succeed in 6th grade! I understand how tough it may be to start a new school, make new friends, and have new challenges, but all the teachers at Kerr are here for you!

  7. Topics we’re learning about this year include: • Scientific Investigations • Forces and Motion • Earth • Energy Resources • Space • Chemistry • Life Science • Human Sexuality

  8. We’re here to help you succeed! • Advisory – Also called 1st period, this is a tutoring time for students to get extra help in certain subjects to prepare for STAAR. • Ketchup Class – Offered during Advisory time, this class is for students that have been absent for a test or quiz and need a place to make it up. • Learning Lab – A quiet learning environment that students may visit throughout the day. Small-group settings allow students to work together to accomplish their tasks. • Friday Night Live – This is an opportunity for students to get one-on-one help, finish homework, and get caught up. FNL will be offered periodically from 4pm-8pm on Friday nights. • Tutoring - I will be offering tutoring in the morning and on selective afternoons. I will also coordinate student peer study groups when needed. • HARVARD – Offered to help students finish large amounts of work, take missed tests and quizzes, and receive tutoring - Certified teachers are on hand every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to help you from 4-6pm.
