Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (KCARD) • KCARD provides business planning, marketing assistance, feasibility studies, and grant/loan facilitation for farmers, agribusinesses, and agricultural organizations across Kentucky. • Businesses/individuals assisted: 406 in 2018; 240 so far in 2019 • New inquiries to KCARD in 2019: 128. • Rough breakdown of new inquiries: Horticulture: 30; Livestock/meat: 21; Value-added: 11; Hemp: 8. Also, 2 farmers markets, 2 associations, and 4 community groups. • Business success rate (2018): 84% • Producers impacted: At least 1500 farmers in just 2018-2019

  3. Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (KCARD) KCARD’s reach historically has been driven by good word-of-mouth from farmers using our services. In the past few years, KCARD has moved around its workshops to underserved counties and is doing more outreach into those counties by meeting with extension agents and others.

Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation • Financing provided to small farmers working in the SOAR (Shaping our Appalachian Region) counties of eastern Kentucky to assist them in commercializing their products. • $7,500 loans at a 1% interest with a four-year term. • 141 total loans • Total investment by KHIC: $991,202 • Average loan size: $7,029 • 41 counties invested

  7. Youth Agricultural Incentives Program (YAIP) • Since 2017 there has been 58 Youth Agricultural Incentives Programs administered with total funds of around $783,600 in 29 counties.

  8. Highlight on Carroll County YAIP • Invested $15,000 in their first year administering YAIP (2018) • Thirteen 4-H and FFA members were approved for funding, in the areas of Agricultural Diversification, Animal Production, and Showmanship
