  1. Emittance Work • Taken several Solonoid 02 scans and Quad scans. • Analysed SOL02 scans using Yuri’s method and my Python program. • Analysedquadscans using Ben’s ‘emittance’ program. • Sources of error being investigated.

  2. Emittance Work

  3. Emittance Work

  4. Emittance Work • Errors in Solonoidscan include, temporal variation in the beam image, due to other factors such as laser jitter (however small) • Inaccuracy in slit position • Possible multiple hotspots from cathode • Rotation of beam in solenoid (to create misshapen beam) • Other unknowns – being worked on.

  5. Emittance Work • POSSIBLE errors in quadscananalysis include the fit to the beam size points • Weighting of the fit to the points (maybe need chi-squared analysis) • Does the conversion to RGB give any loss of original data, for example does it use the same conversion algorithm every time or does it use an optimised mask to produce best looking picture? Does this introduce error?

  6. Emittance Work • Conclusions: • Emittance measurements not as accurate as thought? • More investigation needed.
