  1. Introduction to FACET & Test Facilities and charge to SAREC committee Vitaly Yakimenko June 25, 2013

  2. FY13 run Weeks Nimble scheduling for FY13 run was a necessity SAREC meeting, July 25, 2013, V. Yakimenko • 5 months long commissioning/running • Four beam configurations (some uncertainty in time to develop) • Configurations were progressively more difficult • Uncertain schedule for commissioning of the ionization laser

  3. Beam time delivery by configuration Users requests and justifications will set time allocation for FY14 run SAREC meeting, July 25, 2013, V. Yakimenko

  4. FY13 Run Time Distribution (total 3616 hrs.) Smaller fraction of “Scheduled off” (mainly laser installation) and “Machine studies” are expected in next run. Accelerator availability was ~85%. SAREC meeting, July 25, 2013, V. Yakimenko

  5. Planning for FY14 run Weeks FY14 is expected to have much more user experimental time. Efficient use will be main challenge • Two part run is planned for FY14: • Sept.30-Dec.20: Two bunch PWFA in 1.5m oven, positrons testing • Feb.2-Jun.30: Beam time shared between ~12 experiments • LCLS II construction schedule is not finalized SAREC meeting, July 25, 2013, V. Yakimenko

  8. Program Advisory Committee & User meetings FACET time is oversubscribed • Updates from six experiments that did use beam time in FY13 is expected. • 12 new proposals are submitted in addition to already ongoing programs: • 8 for FACET (one will be first tried at ESTB and one at NLCTA) • 3 for NLCTA • 1 for ASTA • Detector R&D experiments at ESTB are reviewed by separate committee SAREC meeting, July 25, 2013, V. Yakimenko

  9. Charge to the Program Advisory Committee • Evaluate the scientific merit and rate the technical risk of the NEW proposals for the SLAC Accelerator Test Facilities. • Determine whether the new proposals would be appropriate at this time or in the future. • Review existing R&D results at the SLAC Accelerator Test Facilities and which elements need further in-depth analysis (for example): • Is the science unique and is the progress compelling? • Is the program making effective use of facility and lab resources? • Could the program be enhanced by expanding the collaboration? • Comment on the synergy of the programs within and between the facilities. Are there opportunities SLAC should pursue? What would be needed to successfully realize these opportunities? SAREC meeting, July 25, 2013, V. Yakimenko
