  2. Ege University School of Medicine • Ege University was established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on May 20,1955. • Ege University Faculty of Medicine was one of the first faculty established with 90 students including 20 foreigners.

  3. Brief history of child and adolescent psychiatry in Turkey • Initially, psychiatry units in Turkey were established and operated by doctors who were educated abroad. • In 1979, Dr. Aydın was tasked with the job of initiating a child psychiatry department at Ege University.

  4. Dr. Aydın, three psychiatrists, one social worker, one nurse and one child development trainer comprised the first team of the child psychiatry department that functioned independently from the adult unit.

  5. In 1990, child psychiatry was accepted as a main branch of health care. The same year the first medical student passed the required examinations to acquire a specialty in medicine.

  6. Since then, numerous clinicians have graduated from the University’s program and continue to work with the doctors and professors who orginated the University Child and Adolescent Psy. Department.

Our department subunits • First application • Preschool children • Adolescent mental health • Consultation liaison psychiatry • Disruptive behaviour disorders unit • Autism spectrum disorder unit • Psychosis and mood disorders unit • Anxiety disorders unit • Forensic psychiatry unit • Substance use disorder unit • Inpatient unit

How can patients make an initial appointment? • The family of the child/adolescent must complete an application questionaire about the child’s behaviour and areas of concern. • These forms are evaluated by the academic members and given an appointment date according to the urgency of the situation. • The patients are of followed up the abovementioned units in accordance with their diagnoses.

  10. Incide servicing • The mental problems of clients 0 to 18 years are evaluated in our clinic. If required, the people related to life of patient should be in cooperation with. • The care and treatment for patients 0 to 18 years old is evaluated in the clinic at Ege University Hospital. • Depending on the patient’s needs, the doctor will communicate with the patient’s family members, close relatives and teachers regarding treatment.

  12. Outside servicing • Aimed at preventative mental health • Conferences • Panel discussion • Give counseling-Turkish Social service and children protection instution (orphanage place where children live who don’t have parents)

  19. What kind of patients could benefit from the inpatient services? Children and adolescents; • Who suffer from serious and complicated mental disorders • Who need to be under constant observation • Which cause issues with family members can be hospitalized to recieve appropriate treatment

What kind of treatment are we using? • Treatment program is intended for each patient’s needs as individual. • Individual psychotherapy • Parents supportive psychotherapy related to diagnose • Group therapies mainly art and drama • Dancing and sport time • Occupational therapy • Drug treatment if needed

  21. Our inpatient staff members: • Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists (two academic members and three assistant doctors) • Clinical psychologist • Art and drama therapist • Occupational therapist • Experienced psychiatry nurses • Social service worker
