  3. Professionalism- • The word “professionalism” means to publicly profess expertise and commitment to a particular area. • Professionalism involves standards, attitudes, behaviors, knowledge, and character. • Professionals are typically held to higher standards than others, gain their livelihood by providing service to the public in there area of expertise, and are autonomous in their workplaces (within the standards and laws of their associations, institutions, and governments). • Because professionalism requires knowledge of the codes of ethics that guide ones discipline, even medical students should be aware of relevant guidelines within their institutions.

  4. Professional Behaviors The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and similar organizations expect that by the time medical students begin their clinical training they will have already begun to embody and demonstrate these professional behaviors:- · Altruism (putting others interest before your own) · Honor and Integrity (stem from ones’ character and routine behaviors) · Caring and Compassion (require reflection and tolerance) · Respectfulness (toward everyone all the time) · Accountability (to themselves and their teachers, colleagues, and profession)
