  5. Why did we launch RSS feeds? • Demand for immediate notice of policy publications from 75% of website survey respondents • Demand for immediate notice of events from 60% of respondents • Goal to lead in providing services • Goal to be “best commission website” • Expectation of future demand

  6. What did we consider? • New CMS supports XML • What content to feed • Which button? What colour? • How much information to provide about RSS on the site? • Different feed readers: we tested Bloglines and FeedReader

  7. Technical Considerations • What version of RSS to use: 1.0, 2.0, Atom (we chose 2.0) • Added this code to all pages: • <link href="http://www.bcsc.bc.ca/RSS/rss_events.xml" rel="alternate”> • What tags to use • What to put in each tag • Dublin Core

  8. How did we promote? • Added RSS button to all pages that have content that is in a feed • Created subscription page • Submitted to Feedster, Syndic8 • Picked up by Nooked

  9. Feedback on RSS • Know that dealers requested it • Little response from law firms • Picked up in web analytics, spidered • Some interest from media • Need to create a market because it’s a leading edge technology

  10. BCSC Strategy • Promoting RSS to exchanges, SROs, other regulatory partners • Promoting RSS to law firms, dealers, company associations

  11. Future Plans • Adding RSS feeds for new investment products and investor alerts • Adding email subscription services • Improving existing services
