  5. Ensham Project History 1 • 1983 - Queensland Government release by tender, an area of 900 square kilometres for exploration. • 1984 - Grant of ATP426 on February 22, 1984 to a Joint Venture of 15 companies. • 1984-86 - Exploration of ATP426 by a consortium of 7. • 1987-90 - Rationalisation of JV parties to a group of 5. • 1990 - Minister for Resource Industries grants EP505 to a JV of 3.

  6. Ensham Project History 2 • 1991 - Contract confirmed with KEPCO (10 Yr). 2 mining lease applications lodged. Exploration commenced in Yongala area. • 1992 - ML70049 was applied for in June. Court action with previous JV partners settled. • 1993 - ML70049 – Yongala was granted in January. - Dragline walked 54 km to Ensham Lease. - First coal railings in September and first shipment in October. Stage 1 to 0.9Mtpa • 1994 - First shipment to KEPCO was delivered on time. Stage 2 to 1.6Mtpa development commenced in May.

  7. Ensham Project History 3 • 1995 - Coal haulage commenced from Pit C in January. Dragline walked to Pit D in March. • 1996 - Stage 3 to 5.5Mtpa development started in June. • 1997 - EPDC 20 year contract signed. EPDC became 4th Venture Owner (10%). • 1998 - First train railed from Ensham Load Out in October. - Ensham offices and accommodation built - P&H 9020 Dragline 2 build completed in September. - Coal mining started from Pit B

  8. Ensham Project History 4 • 1999 - 10 millionth tonne exported. Production stabilised at 5.5 Mtpa. Dragline 3 arrived BE1260 • 2000 – Yongala Pit stopped • 2002 – Management and strategy change started for further expansion, better design and control • 2003 – Pit A started • 2004 – Yongala Pit restarted in semi soft coking market. Dragline 4 ordered Bucyrus 8750
