  2. What drinks do you think contain sugar?

  3. How do you feel after drinking a Sugary drink?

  4. Why are sugary drinks bad for you? • Can lead to weight gain • Will not help you grow • Can cause cavities and tooth decay • Leads to a “sugar crash”- sugary drinks give you a short burst of energy and then make you feel tired or even grouchy

  5. How much added sugar should you have? Youth should have no more than 6 teaspoons of ADDED SUGAR per day. (24 grams of sugar) 1 can of coke has 12 teaspoons =

  6. Why should you drink water? • Protects your body organs and tissues • Carries nutrients and oxygen to all the cells in your body • Helps you fight off illness • Helps you digest your food and get rid of waste • Helps to control your body temperature • Keeps your skin and hair healthy

  7. How can you drink more water? • Bring a water bottle to school everyday! • Drink a glass of water with every meal • Refill your water bottle at the new hydration stations • Drink water after PE class and recess • Flavor it up! Add fresh lemon, limeor mint to your water

  8. STOP. RETHINK YOUR DRINK. GO ON GREEN. • RED – Drink rarely or never • Regular sodas • Energy or sport drinks • Fruit Punches • YELLOW – Drink sometimes • 100% juice • Flavored milk • GREEN – Drink often • Water • Skim or 1% milk
