Why Drink Water

  • The human body is made up of 75% water (solvent) and 25% solid matter (solute).  The brain is made up of 85% water.

  • Water is the transporter of important chemical elements (i.e. hormones, nutrients, etc.) that are critical for optimal physiological function.

  • Besides the preventative measures against injury, proper hydration allows muscles to fire and function at an optimal rate, thus allowing maximum power in the golf swing.

How Much H2O Should A Golfer Drink?

  • The optimal amount of water to drink is 1/2 your body weight (pounds) in ounces per day.  For example, a 150 lb. golfer will need to drink 75 ounces per day.

  • Other fluids DO NOT COUNT toward your goal of 1/2 your bodyweight in ounces.  Those fluids include: coffee, tea, juices, soda, soups, milk, mineral water, sports drinks, and flavored water.

  • If it is difficult to drink water, adding unrefined Celtic Sea Salt to your water will make the water more palatable.  It will also replace important electrolytes during golf rounds.

When Should I Drink H2O?

  • Drinking 2-4 cups of water first thing in the morning is critical because during sleep the body becomes dehydrated.  Therefore hydrating the body first thing in the morning is the first step to optimal hydration.

  • For improved digestion, avoid drinking large amounts of water during your meal. Drinking large amounts of water during the meal dilutes digestive enzymes.  Try sipping water throughout your meal.  Drinking 1-2 cups of water 15-20 minutes before a meal can aid and promote optimal digestion.

  • It's important to continually drink water throughout the golf round.  A good rule of thumb is to drink 50% of your daily water during the golf round.  For example the 200 lb. golfer would drink 50 ounces of the daily 100 ounces of water during the golf round.

Not Just Any Water!

  • Reverse Osmosis is a good source of water from an at home source.

  • High quality water sources include Evian, Fiji, and Trinity.

  • Avoid leaving plastic water bottles in extreme temperatures. The extreme temperatures will leech xenoestrogens from the plastic into the water and disrupt the hormonal system.
