  3. 2003 Projects and Activities • Activities associated with PNWCG/NWS MOU • Biannual meetings with NWS – • Feb – Annual Operating Plan and weather support for the coming fire season • Nov – fire season review and suggestions for improvement • Topics of discussion include: • Interactive Forecast Preparation System (IFPS) • National Interagency Agreement for Meteorological Services • PNWCG/NWS MOU • Evaluation of agency provided weather data

  4. 2003 Projects and Activities (cont) • Oregon National Guard mobile radiosonde unit • Evaluation of NWS services in 2003 (daily forecasts, Red Flag Warnings, NFDRS forecasts, IMET dispatches, internet briefings, field comments) • Evaluation of Predictive Services 10-day fire severity assessment • Weather Station Network – Phase 1 and 2 • Fire Weather Zones • Fire Weather District changes • Collaboration with Fire Use/Fuels Management Team • Oregon National Guard radiosonde unit

  5. 2004 Projected Work • FWWT/NWS biannual meetings • Weather Station Network – Completion of Phases 1 and 2 • Possibility of similar mobile radiosonde unit in Washington as in Oregon • Continued refinement with NWS of Red Flag criteria – dry lightning, strong wind/low RH, verification • Continued implementation of PNWCG/NWS MOU

  6. In General • Maintain contact with the NWS and National and California Wildfire Coordinating Groups on weather issues of mutual concern • Establish and maintain better coordination and communications with other PNWCG working teams on weather issues
