  1. Title : Deploying Technology to combat the Urgent Global Issues Group Members : Mayank Kumar – XII A : Kishor Kumar – XII A City : Bokaro Steel City Project Guide : Dr. Karuna Prasad

  2. Air Pollution & the consequent Global Warming MOST URGENT ISSUES TODAY…

  3. A FEW STATISTICS

  4. AND IF THE TREND CONTINUES . . .

  5. REPORTS SHOW

  6. Our Idea… Our Approach…

  7. PURIFYING CHIMNEY EXHAUST SO AS TO REDUCE AIR POLLUTION AND CONSEQUENT GLOBAL WARMING

  8. Our Idea… Our Approach…

  9. Components of chimney Exhaust :

  10. The Apparatus : Filtering Chamber 1 Filtering chamber 2 Filtering chamber 3

  11. FILTERING CHAMBER 1(FC1)

  12. FILTERING CHAMBER 2(FC2)

  13. Description : Layout : • FC2 comprises of chemical solutions and reagents aligned in a proper manner. • It has 3 sections so as to absorb much of the harmful gases.

  14. SECTION 1 : SO2 + NaOH ---- Na2SO4 + H20

  15. SECTION 2 : CO2 + Ca(OH)2 ---- CaCO3 + H2O

  16. SECTION3: 2NO2 + 3H2 ----2NH3 + H2O

  17. FILTERING CHAMBER 3(FC3)

  18. OVERALL IMPACT : • Exhaust’s temperature is reduced. • Dust and soot is filtered • Toxic gases treated.

  19. Effectiveness and Precision

  20. Byproducts Formed

  21. Byproducts obtained

  22. Analysis of the Byproducts:

  23. BUDG£T

  24. ONE TIME EXPENSES : (For an average chimney ejecting 25 L exhaust per min.)

  25. RUNNING EXPENSES :

  26. MONEY FROM BYPRODUCTS :

  27. NET BUDGET:

  28. REAL LIFE APPLICATION

  29. BOKARO STEEL LIMITED(B.S.L)

  30. BOKARO STEEL PLANT Type : State Owned Enterprise Traded as : NSE : SAIL Industry : Iron and Steel Founded : 1964 Annual Turnover : 50,348 crores (2011-12) • B.S.L houses 5 blast furnaces with total capacity to produce 4.5 million tonnes of liquid steel per year. • The plant is undergoing mass modernization after which the output is expected to be 10 MT of steel per annum.

  31. IN TERMS OF POLLUTION • Over 50 chimneys • 1000 L of exhaust /hour • 1 ton of steel produces 3 ton of smoke

  32. THANK YOU
