  1. Perception Done by: Abdulaziz Mohammed Abulfatih Class: 11s

  2. The main ideas: • The relationship between what we perceive and what is “really there” is far from clear. • We have several other senses than the five senses, including the senses of balance, pain and temperature, and the so called kinesthetic sense. • The two senses that most of us rely on is sight and sound. • There are several senses animals have that we humans don’t have. Sharks have lateral lines which are sensitive to the electric fields around them, they can sense the electric fields of pry that are totally motionless and hidden under sand. • Pain is an experience in our minds. It is finale to a complicated process, involving sensory inputs. • Color is an experience in our minds, so there is no color in the world of things and objects.

  3. the problem of knowledge related to the section. • What is the real color of the sea? • How much of the real world is in our minds? • Why should light be associated with the experience of color, and noise with the experience of sound?

  4. the real world situation/ experience of the problem of perception The sea has only one color though different people may see the sea in different colors. A person who has just had a bright light shinning in his eyes may see the sea in a different color but that does not mean that the sea has more than one color. The relationship between what we perceive and what is really there is far from clear.

  5. conclusion / Sources Conclusion: In conclusion people depend on their senses in their everyday life. But most people also know that our senses are not always reliable. There are many examples where the information our senses give us seems to conflict with the real world. But trusting our senses is natural because it’s the easiest tool that we can use to differ between reality and unreality. Sources: The only source that has been used is the booklet (TOK Perception booklet).
