  1. Dear Parents, Welcome to the fifth grade! We hope you had a wonderful summer and that your child has come back to school excited and ready to learn! This letter contains important information about routines and practices for our classrooms and the fifth grade team. Please keep this paper as a reference and let us know if you need additional information. Instruction- I will be your child’s math and homeroom teacher; however, your child will also have Mrs. Nesselrodt for language arts and Mr. Jenkins for science and social studies. This will be explained in detail to the students on the first day of school and to you at “Back to School Night.” Agenda- Your child will record all daily and long-term assignments in the agenda. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that homework assignments are written down, that all necessary materials are packed, and that the agenda is initialed by a parent each night. Each teacher will give adequate time to write the assignments in the planner. Although not all subjects will have homework every night, we also use the agenda to communicate important information to you. Therefore, the planner needs to be signed every night, including Fridays. Thursday folder- Your child will bring home a special folder each Thursday. This folder will contain important information from the office and from the PTA. Please go through the folder each Thursday and return the folder with your signature on Friday. Homework- Homework will typically be assigned Monday-Thursday. It should take approximately one hour or less for your child to complete homework. If he/she is frequently spending more than one hour on homework, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can discuss alternatives. Note: “NONE” should be written for any subjects that do not have homework that particular night. Snack- Because our lunchtime is in the afternoon, we will have snack in the morning. Please send in a healthy snack for your child. Soda and candy are not permitted. Your child is permitted to have a water bottle with a lid (plain water, please) to keep at his/her desk. Communication is vital to a successful year, and we encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns. Thank you for entrusting your child to us! Sincerely, The Fifth Grade Team
