Content of WP1 report • WP1 : Review of current international methodological handbooks and guidelines • Sub-Tasks: • ST1:definition of a statistical standard and of guidance • ST2: review of 6 existing manuals • ST3: review of support measures • ST4: quality of statistical standards and criteria for the assessment • The report will be organised accordingly to the sub-tasks that have been defined for this workpackage Essnet STAND-PREP Rome, 6-7 June 2011

Definition of a statistical standard • Review of the literature for the definition of statistical standards: • ISO/IEC Guide 2 – Standardisation and related activities – General vocabulary • The ABC of standards activities - US National Institute of Standards and Technology (INSEE) • The six dimensions of standards: Contribution towards a theory of standardisation in telecommunications • CEN’s Horizontal European Services Standardization Strategy (KSH) • Office of management and budget -Standards and guidelines for statistical surveys (INSEE) • The Advisory Panel On Telephone Public Opinion Survey Quality (ISTAT) • International Standardisation as a strategic tool (INSEE) • Independent, Transparent, Externally Audited: the ISO approach to Survey Process Quality • Other • Definition of statistical standards and of guidance • Responsible: INSEE • Contributors: all authors of analyses and reviews • Deadline: end of June Essnet STAND-PREP Rome, 6-7 June 2011
