  1. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Causes | Symptoms | Treatments

  2. What is Inflammatory Bowel Disease? Inflammatory Bowel Disease or IBDin short, is a problem that occurs in the gastrointestinal tract, causing the intestines to inflame. Treatments given to patients with inflammatory bowel disease are likely to counter the effects of this disease from getting out of hand. We find out here, what kind of problems occurs in the digestive tract, causing one to experience this disease.

  3. Causes of Inflammatory Bowel Disease The exact cause of inflammatory bowel disease remains unknown. Previously, diet and stress were suspected, but now doctors know that these factors may aggravate but don't cause IBD. One possible cause is an immune system malfunction. When your immune system tries to fight off an invading virus or bacterium, an abnormal immune response causes the immune system to attack the cells in the digestive tract, too. Heredity also seems to play a role in that IBD is more common in people who have family members with the disease. However, most people with IBD don't have this family history.

  4. Symptoms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease • Diarrhoea is bloody. Sometimes diarrhoea can be extremely watery without the evidence of blood • Anaemia • Cramping and pain in the abdomen region • Perianal disease and fistulae problems take place • Bowel movements are frequent • Feverish • Colonic strictures inflame • Loss in weight • Bowel region ruptures • Appetite is considerably low • Ulcers present in the digestive tract start to bleed

  5. Treatments of Inflammatory Bowel Disease If caught on time, inflammatory bowel disease can be detected and treated effectively. There are certain medications that intervene during the inflammation process, therefore they aid in reducing the effects of the disease. Anti TNF Agents • Infliximab Immune Modifier • Azathioprine • 6-mercaptopurine

  6. Treatments Continue… Antibiotics • Thalidomide • Ciprofloxacin • Heparin • Metronidazole • CyclosporineA • Antidiarrhoeal agents • Acid suppressants Corticosteroids • Dexamethasone • Prednisone • Methylprednisolone • Budesonide

  7. Diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Blood tests • Tests for anemia or infection. • Fecal occult blood test. Endoscopic procedures • Colonoscopy. • Flexible sigmoidoscopy. • Upper endoscopy. • Capsule endoscopy. • Double-balloon endoscopy.

  8. Diagnosis Continue… Imaging procedures • X-ray. • Computerized tomography (CT) scan . • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) . • Small bowel imaging

  9. Preventions Inflammatory Bowel Disease • Eat foods high in fibre like fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grain breads, and so on • Avoid aerated drinks and stay clear from gaseous foods like lentils, onions, or broccoli • Stopsmokingwhile you go through an IBD, or your condition will only get out of hand • Exercise on a daily basis, and maintain your bodily movements during this time • Incorporate protein diet foods, like fish and meats • Include multivitamins in your diet, and fish oil capsules as well • Eat small meals at different times of the day, to regulate the functions of your bowel system continuously
