  3. Objectives of Lecture 28 • After completing lecture 28, you should be able to • Plan a simple presentation • Research and prepare the content • Organize the content • Deliver oral presentations • Use visual aids effectively

  4. Questions • Have you ever given a presentation? • If yes, what was it about? • What was the last presentation you attended? • What was your impression about it?

  6. 3 Steps of Presentations • Say what you’re going to say. • Say it. • Say what you just said.

  7. Do’s and Don’ts • Be organized! The more organized and focused your presentation is, the more relaxed you'll feel. • Breathe! (It helps you relax.) • Don't try to cover too much material. Remember the time. • Do speak clearly, slowly and at an appropriate level for your audience. • Use vocabulary that is appropriate for your audience. If you use new vocabulary, make sure you explain it and write it on the board. • Do make eye contact with all members of your audience. • Do move around. • Do use hand gestures. • Do allow the audience to ask questions at the end of your presentation. • Don't read your presentation. You can use short notes, but reading a presentation is unnatural; also, it makes it very difficult for your audience to follow. • Do practice your presentation with a partner or in front of the mirror. • Do remember to thank your audience.

  8. Signposting When we are giving a presentation, there are certain key words we use to ’signpost’ different stages in our presentation. These words are not difficult to learn but it is absolutely essential that you memorize them and can use them when you are under pressure giving a presentation.

  9. Visual Aids • Use visual aids to • support your content • Explain a complex relationship between ideas • Engage you audience • Provide visualization of an abstract idea • Avoid visual clutter • Avoid distractions

  10. Task 1 • Watch this video and note three killer presentation tips that Anthony Miller gives. • Make sure your message is memorableand clear. • Make sure the slides you use enhance your presentation. • Tell stories.
