  2. What is CEENet? CEENet - Central and Eastern European Networking Association is an association (registered in Austria) of 26 national organizations from CEE and FSU countries, which focus on the academic, research and educational networking. The primary mission of CEENet is the international co-ordination of the establishment and operation of academic, research and educational networks in CEE and FSU.

  3. CEENet educational activities Surveys show that IT education is a major need of CEE/FSU region and the right investment. CEENet co-organizes workshops (including all logistics)on: • Network Policy(Tartu97, Tbilisi99, Bishkek01); • Network Managerial Methods(Yaroslavl98, Ohrid00, Zagreb02);

  4. Network Technology (Warsaw95,Zagreb97, Bratislava98, Budapest96 / 99 / 00 / 01 / 02, Tver 02) • consisting of 3 tracks: • Engineering the Network (with SILK, VSAT sel-up in Budapest 2002) • Networked Knowledge Systems • Wired Education (in Russian language in Tver 2002)

  5. CEENet distance learning courses CEENet • runs 3 distance learning courses (using WebCT platform) in English and Russian; • cooperates with CISCO in spreading „CISCO Academies” in CEE/FSU; • maintains training facility (SONETA) in CEU Budapest.

  6. CEENet educational potential • IT lecturer team of ca. 30 persons (English, partially English&Russian speaking); • direct contacts to educational networks in 20+ countries and to ca. 550 former students in key positions in CEE/FSU IT sector; • Several IT training programmes, ability to develop and implement new educational and professional programmes; • 4 IT distance learning courses, ca. 20 designers, 40 tutors; • Access to SONETA training facility; • 8 year experience in logistic and management of IT trainings; • 4 year experience in distance learning, course design and tutoring.

  7. NREN Creation Support NREN creation handbook • a set of articles on creation of sustainable NRENs and sample basic documents from well established NRENs (in Russian) NREN creation (‘flying’) Workshop • a visit of reps from emerging NRENs from fSU (and Balkans?) to CESNet, NASK, POL34, EENet (and CARNet?)

  8. Other CEENet potential • contacts to key people at NRENs, who are at the forefront of IT and networking in their countries • Contacts to international consultants in IT area of: policy, regulations and communications law, proliferation of IT in all levels of education, funding; • Experience in cooperation with leading CIT companies, vendors and international funding institutions (OSI, NATO, EC-FP5, UNDP, World Bank, etc. • Grant and consortium partner brokerage
