Continue working on music notation • Bell Ringer • List 3 different groups who have had an artist go solo. • List one musical style that we have not studied within the past two weeks. • Notate the following on a sheet of staff paper: C#/Bflat/A/D#/Gflat • &Eflat • Bobby Darin – listen to recordings, discuss role in Motown • Four Tops – listen to recordings, discuss role in Motown • Music Notation • ID rhythms and compare to melody • Copy melody • Write letter notes underneath staff and play on piano/xylophone

  2. Bobby Darin • Bobby Darin was born in the Bronx, New York • His birth name was Walden Robert Cassotto • Date of birth: May 14, 1936 • Born into an economically poor family

  3. Musical Talent • Bobby was known to possess musical ability on a number of different instruments • Piano • Harmonica • Guitar • Voice • Xylophone • Drums

  4. Bobby Darin Hits • Bobby Darin signed with Motown later on in his life. Over his career, he had a number of hit songs. • Dream Lover • Mack The Knife • Splish Splash • Auld Lange Syne

  5. Death • Bobby Darin lived until the age of 36. • His life was cut short because of a pre-existing heart condition.

  6. The Four Tops • Originally out of Detroit, MI. • The Four Tops were a combo of two groups from different Detroit area High Schools.

  7. Early Success • Before signing with Motown, The Four Tops signed with Chess Records of Chicago. • Hits by The Four Tops include the following • Reach Out I’ll Be There • I Can’t Help Myself • Loving You is Sweeter Than Ever

  8. The Epitome of Motown Sound • With the help of great song writers and The Funk Brothers, The Four Tops have created what many describe as the classic Motown Sound

  9. Where are they now? • Today, there is only one surviving member of The Four Tops. • The one remaining member continues to tour and perform with replacement members.
