  1. With love, nothing can go wrong!<3 …or can it?

  2. TEEN DATING VIOLENCE- Once a hidden problem…is getting some serious attention..

  3. What is TEEN DATING VIOLENCE- Dating violence is a pattern of assaultive and controlling behaviors that one person uses against another in order to gain or maintain power and control in the relationship. The abuser intentionally behaves in ways that cause fear, degradationand humiliation to control the other person.

  4. Abusers attempt to control their partners in a variety of ways. The following is a list of common controlling behaviors: Isolation: Trying to cut off the victim's relationship with family and friends; using jealousy to justify behavior.

  5. Sexual: Touching or forcing the victim to engage in unwanted sexual activity.

  6. Emotional: Humiliating the victim in front of friends or making the victim feel guilty when she confronts the abuser about the abuse.

  7. Physical: Using or threatening to use physically assaultive behaviors such as hitting, shoving, grabbing, slapping, beating, kicking, etc.

  8. Coercion:Threatening to find someone else if the dating partner doesn't comply with the abuser's wishes or demands. Threats to harm self or others if the dating partner leaves.

  9. Intimidation:Making the victim fearful by using threatening behavior, abuse of animals, verbal aggression or destruction of property.

  10. A 2005 study showed that 6,888 high school girls surveyed nationally, 1 in 11 had been hit, slapped or punched by an intimate partner.

  11. Both females and males can be victims of dating violence, but the majority of victims are females (usually more than 95 percent).

  12. Of the women between the ages of 15-19 murdered each year, 30% are killed by their husband or boyfriend.

  13. One day in January 2005, Joe arrived at school drunk and threw Sarah against a locker. "He started shaking me," she says, "yelling that I would never be able to hide from him. He told me he was going to beat the life out of me."

  14. Abuse in relationships includes mental and emotional abuse, in addition to physical abuse.

  15. According to a Harvard study of 4,163 public high school girls in 2001, nearly 1 in 5 reported physical or sexual abuse in a relationship.

  16. Soon There Will Be A Brighter DayFlashbacks of his violent temper still linger in my mind Some say I must forgive myself Then I will be strong I will heal in time • *Why did I let him take Control I let him take the best of me I was afraid to speak my Mind trapped in a Nightmare In fear of the beast • *What I thought was love, was a game of his sick use. Black and blues • * • Bruised on the inside Will the scars ever fade away In search of my smile, Tears have all dried Soon there will be a brighter day.. • Karen Approbato

  17. Life on the Inside Staring out the open window feeling trapped and so aloneWondering what life was like outside the four walls of her homeIt had been such a long time now since her freedom she had lostShe had fallen for an abuser and now she pays the cost *She thought if only she had the courage and confidence she lackedThen it would be so easy to walk away and never again look backBut that had all been stripped from her by a man who strives on controlHe had stolen her identity and left her with only a broken soul *Some may wonder why she stayed so long and let him hurt him soBut they don't understand he had such a hold on her and would never lether goThey just don't realize what its like to have no tears left to cry And the only freedom you can see in your future is the day you will die *She sits staring out the open window silently wishing for someone to pass by Someone to come break the chains and set her captive soul free to flyHer pleading can be heard carried softly by angels to the world outsideSomeone come and save me and loose the strings he has so tightly tied By Kath

  18. One of the scariest moments, happened during an argument between classes when Rae Anne grabbed Marcus' backpack. "When I got to the top of the stairs, he got behind me, and grabbed me by my arm and twirled me around, and told me to never touch him like that again. And he pushed me down the stairs," Rae Anne said.

  19. Sadness…

  20. “I thought his jealousy and constant over-protectiveness was romantic at first. I thought this proved just how much he loved and needed me. I realize now that this was just another way for him to control me. I was only property to him.” -Kate R.

  21. Alone…

  22. “I know that someday it will won’t be like this anymore…someone will save me..” -unknown

  23. Afraid…

  24. “I fear for my life everyday...praying and telling myself it will be okay..” -Anonymous
