  2. Introduction The Iditarod is a dog sled race that has a musher and dogs. They are on a trail for 11 days or more.

  3. Mushers • My musher is Nicholas Petit . • He is 34 years old. • His bib number is 29. • He was born in Normandy, France. • He started dog sledding when he was in diapers.

  4. Dogs One type of dog they use is the Alaskan husky, they are very powerful. Every sled starts with about 16 dogs. They also wear booties to keep them warm.

  5. Routes and Checkpoints There are 2 routes that you can go through, the northern route and the southern route. There are 26 checkpoints in the northern route, also 27 checkpoints in the southern route. There are 1050 miles in the race.

  6. Awards One award is the Red Lantern Award, the other reward is money. The Red Lantern is given to the team that arrives last, and the money is for the top 20 mushers. Also, the first place is a truck and 50,000 dollars. Also I know another award which Is the Wells Fargo Bank Alaska Gold Coast Award. That is the first musher to reach “Gold Coast” community of Unalakleet.
